Russia sends final fuel shipment to Iran

15 January 2008 – Russia has completed the shipment of uranium fuel for Iran's first nuclear plant, officials said Monday.
Irina Yesipova, a spokeswoman for Russia's state Atomstroiexport company in charge of building the nuclear plant in the southern port of Bushehr, said the eighth and final shipment of 8.6 metric tons of uranium fuel had been delivered overnight.
Iran received the first shipment of nuclear fuel from Russia on December 17 after months of dispute between the two countries, allegedly over delayed construction payments for the reactor.
Overall, more than 120 metric tons of uranium fuel had been delivered, Yesipova said.
Iran has said Bushehr, the country's first nuclear reactor, will begin operating in the summer of 2008, producing half its 1,000-megawatt capacity of electricity.
Yesipova said that a firm date for the plant's launch hadn't been set yet. "It will be necessary to conduct complex work related to preparations for the launch with security being the top priority," she said.
The US initially opposed Russia's contract for building the Bushehr reactor and supplying it with fuel, but later softened its position as Iran agreed to return spent nuclear fuel from the reactor to Russia to ensure it doesn't extract plutonium from it to make atomic bombs.
Russia's decision to
ship nuclear fuel to Iran followed a US intelligence report released
last month that concluded Teheran had stopped its nuclear weapons
program in late 2003 and had not resumed it since. Iran says it
never had a weapons program.
Comments:
update; it didn’t take long for Iran to receive the last
shipment of uranium fuel. I expected maybe a week but it only took
less than 24 hrs to receive the final package. In any case, Iran now
has all the fuel necessary to commission the Bushehr reactor and
begin operating the plant. This is a major concern for Israel and as
I mentioned yesterday could be the final red line that has now been
crossed by Iran. If Israel is going to act they will have to act
before Bushehr is operational or it will be too late. Summer seems
to be the deadline but I think we might see a reaction out of Israel
before then. This situation is getting critical.

EU ministers discuss recording personal data of all visitors to bloc

justice ministers meeting over the weekend examined proposals
that would require all visitors to the EU to have their personal
details recorded upon entry to the 27-nation bloc.
The informal meeting, held in Slovenia, the current holder of the EU
presidency, on Friday and Saturday,
discussed obtaining
finger prints, biometric and personal data from non-EU visitors to
cut down on the risk of terrorists entering the Union.
According to French daily Liberation, the project, spearheaded by EU
justice commissioner Franco Frattini, aims to file the data of all
those entering the EU by land, air or sea.
The
information would be stored in a European database and modelled on
the US system.
"We have to find a balance between security and the right to
freedom of movement," said Mr. Frattini.
His words come just weeks after the EU extended its borderless
internal zone to cover a further nine member states.
The commissioner indicated that the database would allow authorities
to know the date of entry of a person and whether they stayed or
left. "We cannot tolerate that people who arrive legally enter into
illegality," said the commissioner, according to Liberation.
"Public opinion expects that a Europe of security be a Europe that
protects them, which requires securing [Europe] against external
risks," said French interior minister Michele Alliot-Marie. Mr.
Frattini is expected to unveil concrete proposals to his national
counterparts at a formal meeting next month.
Comments: The world is entering a new era where the whole human race will have their personal data recorded and readily available with the swipe of a card, finger printing and biometric scanning. Eventually everyone will be required to receive a mark in their right hand or forehead and the news is telling us that this day is fast approaching. The bible tells us that this system is coming but the way things are going the mark of the beast could be just around the corner. The system is already in place and the initiatives proposed by the European Union are a precursor to the next step which is a free chip for everyone on the bases of security. It’s a deadly scheme.
