Bhutto Challenges Pakistan's President
Source: Guardian
07 November 2007 – Supporters of Benazir Bhutto clashed with police in front of parliament Wednesday after she urged party activists into the streets to protest emergency rule, deepening the uncertainty engulfing a Pakistan already shaken by rising Islamic militancy.
Seeking to position herself as the only leader able to unite the country to confront Islamic extremism, the former prime minister toughened her rhetoric against President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, but she left open the possibility of resuming talks if he ends the crackdown.
President Bush, meanwhile, told the U.S.-allied general that Pakistan must go through with parliamentary elections that had been planned for January. Bush commented after a senior U.S. official called Musharraf an ``indispensable'' ally in the war against extremist groups.
Thousands of Pakistanis have been jailed or put under house arrest since Musharraf assumed emergency powers Saturday, and Bhutto called on her followers to show their defiance of the clampdown on civil liberties.
In an opening skirmish, some 400 loyalists of her Pakistan People's Party, the country's largest, marched up to riot police blocking their way to the parliament building, where lawmakers minutes earlier had rubber-stamped the emergency declaration.
Police fired tear gas over their heads and beat and arrested a few who broke through barricades topped with barbed-wire, including several women.
Naheed Khan, a close aide to Bhutto, waded into the brief melee. She whacked a policeman on the shoulder and screamed: ``Who are you? How dare you take action against women?''
The demonstrators pulled back through the choking gas, chanting ``Benazir! Benazir!'' and ``Down with the emergency!''
Musharraf, who has been promising to restore democracy since seizing power in a 1999 coup, has ousted independent-minded judges, put a stranglehold on the media and granted sweeping powers to authorities to crush dissent since declaring emergency rule.
The general says he suspended the constitution because the courts were hampering his efforts against extremist groups, such as by ordering the release of suspects held without charge. Political opponents, however, contend the crackdown is really meant to protect Musharraf's hold on power.
Three days of protests by lawyers - angered by the attacks on the judiciary - were quickly put down. Police in the southern city of Karachi were trying to arrest eight lawyers on treason charges for distributing anti-Musharraf leaflets. Conviction could bring death sentences.
Bhutto's decision to join in protests added a new dimension to worsening political instability that has seen anger at military rule spread and Islamic militants allied with the Taliban and al-Qaida strengthen their hold on areas along the border with Afghanistan.
Georgia leader declares emergency
Source: Al Jazeera
07 November 2007 - Georgia's president has declared a state of emergency over the entire country for 15 days in the wake of opposition protests against his rule.
Mikhail Saakashvili also banned all news broadcasts except state-run television on Wednesday and expelled three Russian diplomats, accusing Moscow of fomenting unrest.
The declaration comes after the prime minister said there had been an attempted coup.
Russia blamed
Protestors have been calling for the president's resignation since mass demonstrations began last week.
It is the government's worst crisis since the 2003 "Rose Revolution" that swept Saakashvili to power.
In a televised address to the nation, Saakashvili accused Russia's special services of fomenting civil unrest in his country.
"Georgia is facing a very serious threat of unrest... High-ranking officials in Russian special services are behind this," he said.
Comments: Pakistan may be on the verge of Civil war and the next few days will be critical. Benazir Bhutto has threatened more demonstrations and the next protest is scheduled for this Friday. On 13 November another huge demonstration is planned and if Musharraf’s self imposed emergency rule is not lifted, these protests could steamroll out of control.
The U.S. is worried that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons could fall into the wrong hands and this can’t be ruled out if the situation gets worse. Read Nuclear Fallout From Imploding Pakistan? Pakistan is also confronted by rising Islamist extremists who are getting stronger and Musharraf is using this pretext to impose this emergeny rule and keep a grip on power. Musharaf has a threat with the extremists and with Benazir Bhutto and it looks like this battle is just beginning.
Keep an eye on the Pakistan and especially the demonstrations this Friday and next Tuesday.
Georgia is another country facing a state of emergency. Georgia is strategically located between Russia and the Middle East region and could be one of the countries which are allied with Gog (Russia) mentioned in Ezekiel 38 and 39. Georgia (right now) is pro U.S. and due to these opposition protests that alliance could be changing soon. Many people believe that Turkey is Tubal in Eze 38: & 3 but Tubal could also encompass Georgia and most of the Caucasus. Keep an eye on these Georgia protests…Russia needs strategic Georgia.

(1.) The fifth son of Japheth (Gen. 10:2).
(2.) A nation, probably descended from the son of Japheth. It is mentioned by Isaiah (66:19), along with Javan, and by Ezekiel (27:13), along with Meshech, among the traders with Tyre, also among the confederates of Gog (Ezek. 38:2, 3; 39:1), and with Meshech among the nations which were to be destroyed (32:26). This nation was probably the Tiberini of the Greek historian Herodotus, a people of the Asiatic highland west of the Upper Euphrates, the southern range of the Caucasus, on the east of the Black Sea.
Keep watching (Matt 24:42)!
