Annapolis insanity
Source: WND

13 November 2007 – The U.S. is preparing for a very ominous summit in Annapolis later this month to move the "peace process" forward.

When all is said and done, the word "Annapolis" is going to take on a new meaning from this historic error.

What do I mean?

When we say "Oslo" today, you probably think of this so-called "Middle East peace process" – one that leads inevitably and inexorably to never-ending appeasement of the Islamists by Israel.

That's essentially what the peace process is all about. It's about doing the same things over and over again and somehow expecting different results.

A good word for this process is "insanity."

Unfortunately, I believe when this Annapolis summit is completed, we will look back at Oslo and what has transpired since as "the good old days."

Here is what is being decided there:

·         The borders between Israel and a future Palestinian state.

·         The status of Jerusalem, including those holy places on and adjacent to the Temple Mount.

·         The so-called "right of return" for so-called Palestinian "refugees" living outside Israel and the Palestinian areas.

Actually, it's not quite accurate to say these things are being decided there. The truth is they have already been decided. The meeting in Annapolis is a formality where they will be unveiled to the world.

Israeli leadership, if that term is not an oxymoron, has determined to let the Muslims have the Temple Mount, the holiest place in Judaism. It has determined to partition Jerusalem. And it has determined to cut further into the current land of Israel in handing over Judea and Samaria permanently to the Muslims.

The script is written. At Annapolis, Israeli leadership is actually prepared to hand over the Temple Mount to the Muslims – to forsake any claims upon it.

Presumably nothing can stop this juggernaut for "peace." As a result, mark my words, in the future, "Annapolis" will have a new dark meaning for all of us.

Israeli-Palestinian deal "doable" in 9 months: EU
Source: Reuters

13 November 2007 – The EU's top diplomat said on Tuesday an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal was "doable" within nine months and that the issue of the Golan Heights should be addressed by a planned peace conference this month.

Syria has made its attendance conditional on the conference agenda including the Golan Heights, captured from it by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war. The talks on Palestinian statehood are slated for the last week of November in Annapolis, Maryland.

U.S. President George W. Bush called for the conference to bolster Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the long-stalled peace process after Hamas Islamists seized the Gaza Strip in June, and Israel has resisted adding Golan to the agenda.

The conference may also be a chance for the Bush administration to turn its legacy around from the unpopular war in Iraq.

"What we have in mind now is to finish the (Israeli-Palestinian) agreement after Annapolis in, let's say, eight, nine months -- during the period of time in which the administration, the present American administration, will stay in power," the European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, told Reuters in the West Bank town of Jericho.

"It's doable. It requires political will. It requires effort. It's not easy. But it's doable," Solana said.

It is unclear how a deal would be implemented with the Palestinian territories divided between Hamas ruling Gaza and Abbas's Fatah faction dominating the occupied West Bank. Seven people died on Monday in gunfire at a Fatah rally in Gaza.

Solana acknowledged growing tensions between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators struggling to narrow differences over a joint document to be presented at the conference.

Comments:
Javier Solana is back in the Middle East again today and this time he is preparing the ground for the Annapolis summit that is only two weeks away. Remember, it was Javier Solana who said only last week (article here) the Barcelona process could act as "a catalyst for peace" in the Middle East, noting that the EU-Mediterranean partnership is the only international forum in which Israelis and Palestinians come together to discuss regional issues”.

As we know, EU relations with the countries of the Southern Mediterranean and the Middle East are directed by the European Neighborhood Policy. Now, I’m not saying that this will be Javier Solana’s intention but what if Solana wants to implement the peace process with the current ENP time table that is already in effect? In other words, the Middle East peace process could adopt the time table of the ENP budget period that began on 1 January 2007 and runs until 31 December 2013?

Today, Chief Palestinian negotiator for the Annapolis summit Ahmad Qureia (Article here) Speaking after a meeting with EU high commissioner for foreign affairs Javier Solana in Ramallah, Qureia emphasized the importance of the imposition of a timetable for implementation after the conference, stating that such an obligation was the only means by which implementation of the first phase of the road map plan could be assured. "We are keen to have serious negotiations over different issues with a fixed timetable after the conference. We are also keen to implement the first article of the Road Map peace plan without excuses," Qureia stated.

If the Middle East peace process adopts the ENP fixed timetable, this will add a new dimension to Daniels 70th week. I’m not saying that this is what will happen; it is just something to keep an eye on. Watch Javier Solana in Annapolis. Like the first article says… "Annapolis" will have a new dark meaning for all of us.
