Satellite Images Show Syrian Facility Resembling N. Korean Nuke
Reactor
Source: Fox News
23 October 2007 – Commercial satellite images show construction in eastern Syria that resembles the early stages of a small, North Korean-model nuclear reactor, independent experts said in a report Wednesday, speculating that it was the site hit last month in an Israeli airstrike.
The photos, taken nearly a month before the Sept. 6 strike, show a tall, box-like building near the Euphrates River that the report said was similar in shape to a North Korean 5-megawatt reactor building in Yongbyon.
It cautioned that the Syrian building was "not far enough along in its construction to make a definitive comparison." The photo also shows a smaller building on the river that the report says appears to be a pump station, which would be needed to provide water to cool a reactor.
The report was authored by David Albright, a former U.N. nuclear inspector and now head of the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security, and ISI researcher Paul Brannan.
The Israeli airstrike has been shrouded in mystery. Israel has been extremely secretive about the affair, only recently relaxing censorship to allow Israel-based journalists to report that its aircraft attacked a military target deep inside Syria on Sept. 6.
Earlier this month, the New York Times reported that the strike had targeted a partially built nuclear reactor, made with North Korean help, that was years away from completion, citing U.S. and foreign officials.
Syria has repeatedly denied it was building a nuclear facility, and President Bashar Assad has said Israel bombed an "unused military building" in the raid. On Wednesday, a Foreign Ministry official denied earlier media reports that satellite photos showed what could be a nuclear reactor.
Comments:
Update;
if Syria was building a secret Nuclear reactor for the purpose of
building weapons, then Israel had every right to hit the plant and
put the project out of commission. The reports that keep coming out
seem to suggest that North Korea was involved in this construction
and you can be sure that the UN and the United states have
confronted the N. Koreans on this issue. The sanctions red card
would be flashed if NK doesn’t comply.
Syria on the other hand is seems to be on a dangerous collision course with Israel. Haaretz reports today that Syria prepared itself for IAF strike about two weeks ago and according to the report, “Syria had expected Israel to carry out a wide attack on its territory during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations earlier month.” Instead of the tensions abating after the IAF air strike, the tensions between Israel and Syria seem to be increasing to the point of conflict. Keep an eye on the four points I listed yesterday.

EU security chief urges UN, G-8 reforms to better reflect global
power distribution
Source: Herald Tribune
23 October 2007 – The world will be better off if the United States becomes more active in global matters and new heavyweights like India join the U.N. Security Council and the Group of Eight, according to Javier Solana, the EU's foreign and security affairs chief.
A rethink is needed of today's world order that is built around the United States and its western allies, Solana writes in the fall issue of "Europe's World," a European policy review that is published three times a year.
"Power," he adds, "is ebbing away from the West to new powers like China, India, Brazil, South Africa" while the United States has become picky about how, where and when to meet its global responsibilities.
"In recent years, the U.S. has been more narrowly focused on short-term priorities and less willing to seek deeper trade-offs with other countries," Solana writes in the 2,400-word article. (The PDF link is below)
He argues that when the G8 nations — the U.S., Canada, Italy, France, Britain, Germany, Russia and Japan — meet once a year to draft a blueprint of sorts for international relations, they do not accurately reflect global economic and political power.
"We need to make space at the top table. If (the G-8) is to become more effective it needs to be more representative," according to Solana. He adds it should have 10 members and membership must reflect each nation's economic output as well as its military and civilian contribution to peace missions.
"This would not only bring China and India in, but also keep some current members on their toes," writes Solana.
"Equally, we should make space at the U.N. Security Council for the new heavyweights," such as India, Brazil and South Africa.
U.N. members broadly agree that a reform of the security council is in order but disagree on how to do that and which newcomers to bring into the fold.
A new world order also requires more commitment from developed nations to stop arms sales to shaky regimes, Solana says.
"When we talk about
nonproliferation we mostly mean weapons of mass destruction," he
writes. "But for many African or Asian leaders the most urgent
proliferation problem is that of small arms and light weapons."
Comments: If I were to speculate on which countries might be the 10 horn countries spoken of in Daniel 7:24 and Rev 13:1 I would have to say the 10 Western European Union countries. My second guess would be a world wide economic and military alliance of 10 countries just like Javier Solana suggests. Most students of bible prophecy (today) will tell you that that the fourth beast kingdom is the European Union and that the 10 horns will come out of that empire. I agree with that theory based on scripture and events in the news but will never rule out other possibilities. Having said that, I find it interesting that not only is Javier Solana the Secretary General of the of the 10 nation Western European Union (WEU) he is suggesting a global new world order based on a group of 10 (G 10) nations with a strong economy’s and a military’s promoting peace. He also suggests that the UN rearrange itself and add 3 more members to the Security Council. Overall that is some pretty amazing words coming from the EU's foreign policy chief and will add a new school of thought to the 10 horn question. I’ll be keeping an eye on all the possibilities and the little horn.

Da 7:7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
Da 8:25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
