Widening Arctic meltdown chills Canadian scientists
Source: Edmonton Journal
02 October 2007 – Ice experts are shocked by this summer's meltdown in the Canadian Arctic, which reached yet another milestone as ice almost completely disappeared in polar regions that had previously not been seriously affected by global warming.
"The ice is no longer growing or getting old," says John Falkingham, chief forecaster for the Canadian Ice Service, the Environment Canada agency that helps ships find a way through the Northwest Passage and other parts of the Arctic.
"Ten years from now, we may look back on 2007 and say that this was the year we passed the tipping point."
The tipping point is the term climatologists use to describe that moment in time when winter can no longer keep up with the meltdown that spring and summer brings. The less ice there is to reflect solar radiation back into the atmosphere, the warmer the Arctic Ocean becomes.
Until this summer, Falkingham, a 32-year veteran of the service, was reluctant to push the button as hard as other climate watchers, who have been saying that the Northwest Passage will be seasonally ice-free within 25 to 30 years.
But this summer, the ice retreated so far beyond all expectations that he was "shocked" if not "stunned" by what he and his colleagues saw.
Across the Arctic as a whole, the meltdown is where climatologists expected it would be in 2030. In Arctic Canada, 2007's total ice coverage was only a fraction below the minimum record set in 1998.
That wasn't a surprise to Falkingham because unlike the rest of the polar world, the islands in the archipelago protect the ice from the melting forces of winds, tides and storm surges.
What was surprising was the absence of ice in areas where it almost never melts.
The so-called "mortuary" of old ice that normally chokes M'Clintock Channel in the High Arctic was almost all gone. What's more, Viscount Melville Sound, "the birthplace" of a lot of Arctic ice, was down to half its normal summer cover.
"If there's very little ice in these two places, it raises questions about what's going to happen next year," Falkingham says.
Comments: We can’t deny that our world is changing but now it seems like the world is changing faster that what scientists expected. The Canadian arctic is 23 years ahead of schedule for the melting of ice in the North and this should be raising alarm bells (which it is). Now the scientists are asking themselves “what will happen next year”? Remember the article yesterday on global wheat stocks? What will happen next year?
We
are entering into an unprecedented time in the history of the world
and we need to be prepared for the consequences it will bring. It is
too late to turn back the clock that has catapulted the world into
uncharted territory and many Christians might look back and say 2007
was the year we passed the tipping point too. The answer to why all
of this is happening now is not a coincidence but spoken of in the
bible over 2000 years ago and the answer may be found in the article
below.

Israel, Palestine to start final status talks next week
Source: Israel Herald
03
October 2007
-
Ramallah, Oct 3 Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said here
Wednesday that the final-status
negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA)
will be kicked off next week.
At a news conference held in the West Bank city of Ramallah
following a meeting between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert held in Jerusalem, Erekat said
that the two leaders 'have agreed to start the negotiations by
the beginning of next week to reach a joint document about the
issues' that would be referred to the U.S.-sponsored peace
conference slated for November.
'The conference will push for reaching a
conclusive peace deal based on the Roadmap, President
Bush vision of two-state solution, the Arab peace initiative and the
international legitimacy solution,' Erekat told the news conference.
'Abbas and Olmert have agreed to continue meeting regularly to
follow up the work of the negotiation teams,' Erekat added.
He revealed that former Palestinian Premier Ahmed Qurei will head
the Palestinian negotiation team, which will also include experts
and advisors of Abbas.
Comments: If the conference in November produces any kind of a deal that includes handing Jerusalem, the West Bank and final borders for a two state solution, this will be the tipping point that will bring judgement for the nations of this earth. We don’t know if a final peace deal will be signed next month or if the process to reach a final status will be agreed on but all indications point to some kind of deal is in the works.
Jerusalem is the center of our earth; it is where North, South, East and West meet; it is the city that God chose to give to the Jews for an everlasting covenant that (in the end) will never be broken. Israel is being pressure to hand this land over to a terrorist organization by all the nations of this world (including the U.S.) and they cannot understand their error due to blindness. The battle has begun for Jerusalem and the first shot across the bow will be the signature of the pen. Climate change is a drop in the bucket that the earth will reap and is reaping for meddling with Israel. Are we at the tipping point in 2007? Let us pray that a peace deal for Jerusalem (divided) is delayed or never happens.
Jerusalem is our (Christians & Jews) time clock and all eyes should be watching over her and every move the political leaders make regarding her.
Zec 12:1 ¶ The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah (West Bank) and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
