Russia flexes new muscle in Europe
Source: CSM
04 October 2007 – From the Baltics to the Balkans, Russia's resurgence is beginning to tie Europe in knots; creating tensions among nations and fears of ethnic instability and border disputes, and divisions between the US and its continental partners.
In nearly every key relationship Russia has with Europe, the Kremlin under Vladimir Putin – who this week hinted he may stay in power – has pushed its way back to a central place at the decisionmaking table on Kosovo, Iran, energy, military alliances, and nuclear proliferation. And as a key supplier of natural gas to Europe, it's managed to do so at very little economic risk to itself, say diplomats and experts in Europe.
…
How Russian resurgence affects EU
Russian maneuvering on Kosovo is just part of a new geopolitical game that Putin has opened in the past six to eight months in the European neighborhood – one seeking to restore Russia's traditional sense of being a great nation, taking a tougher line on Russia's sphere of influence, and ending what many Russians felt was national humiliation during the 1990s, as Moscow struggled to adjust to post-Soviet realities.
Many experts in Europe have been slow to acknowledge Russia's resurgence – and its divisive effects on Europe's attempts to achieve a common foreign policy. But that is changing, largely due to recent Russian political, economic, and security moves, including opposition to the proposed US missile shield, Russia's cyber attack on Estonia, Gazprom's control of gas to Europe, spy scandal disputes with Britain, Russian bomber violations of Norwegian airspace, Moscow's reticence to sanction Iran on uranium enrichment, and Russia's exploding of the largest-ever nonnuclear bomb last month.
EU may send Kosovo force without UN vote

04 October2007 – The European Union must be ready to deploy a police force in Kosovo without a United Nations Security Council resolution if necessary, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said yesterday.
Solana told a European Parliament committee it was not yet clear whether there would be agreement on a Security Council resolution on the final status of the breakaway Serbian province when negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo Albanian leaders end in December.
The 27-nation EU is preparing to take over responsibility from the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) for supervising the police and justice system under its common European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) once Kosovo's future is settled.
"We have to be prepared to deploy the ESDP mission that has been agreed by the council (of EU governments) with the support of parliament, and we still have to discuss with the (UN) secretary-general under what potential legal basis that mission could be deployed," Solana said.
…
Russia blocked a UN resolution in July on a plan for EU-supervised independence for Kosovo, saying any solution must be acceptable to Serbia, which fiercely opposes independence.
The Russian and Serbian positions have prompted EU lawyers to seek a possible alternative legal basis for taking over responsibility in the territory.
Comments:
When the mighty Russian Empire fell in the early 1990’s, Christians
were left scratching their heads wondering how in the world could
Eze. 38 and 39 be fulfilled according to scripture if Russia was no
longer a superpower. That has all changed since Putin took over the
Kremlin and has rebuilt the Russian superpower and erased the last
fall as if it were a speed bump in the road. Christians who were
left scratching their heads at that time knew that Russia would
someday regain their military strength because the bible is very
clear that Russia will invade Israel near the time of the end.
Javier Solana is ready to deploy an EU police force to Kosovo at a
moments notice because the situation there is ready to spiral out of
control if Kosovo claims independence in December as planned. Russia
and Solana’s are butting heads over Iran (sanctions) and Kosovo
(resolution) and is giving Solana a real headache. Keep in mind that
Solana is also a chief negotiator in the
Middle East peace process and is involved in
Sudan,
Chad (Congo) (read article)
Afghanistan,
Myanmar,
NKorea and just about any other place in the world that has a
conflict or had a conflict in the last decade.
The point I am trying to make here is that Russia is back as a superpower; the EU is a superpower and is involved globally as the bible tells us will be the case near the end times. 10 years ago Russia was nearly a footnote in history and 20 years ago the EU was hardly even recognized in the newspapers. Russia (Gog) and the European Union (4th beast) are both alive and well today.
Eze 38:2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
Eze 39:2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
Note; all major prophecy teachers today, agree that Gog is Russia.
Da 7:7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
Note; all major prophecy teachers today, agree that the European Union is the fourth beast and that the Antichrist will come out of this empire.
