Barak shuns Left
Source: Ynet
01 October 2007 – In his first 100 days at the 14th-floor office in the Defense Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv, Ehud Barak managed to position himself on the right side of the political spectrum – in contradiction to views he himself voiced in the past.
The tables have turned: The man, who during his term as prime minister in 2000 proposed a withdrawal from 90 percent of the territories including Arab neighborhoods in east Jerusalem, is using Benjamin Netanyahu-style rhetoric and saying there is no partner on the Palestinian side and that an agreement with the Palestinians is no more than a fantasy.
Barak's actions are commensurate with his talk: The man who at the end of his premiership term, and without any public legitimacy, proposed far-reaching concessions at the Taba talks and was willing to forego Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount, is now making a big deal out of the evacuation of 24 tiny outposts in Judea and Samaria while offering the Palestinians meaningless concessions, such as the possibility to bring in 500 police officers into a Palestinian town during the day.
Ehud Barak, who used to be the great hope of the Israeli Left, declares now that Israel cannot withdraw from another inch of land before a defense system that can intercept Qassam rockets and missiles is developed and completed – something which at the very earliest will only happen five years from now.
Preparing to strike Gaza
And if all this is not enough: Instead of backing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas with a series of moves to ease life in the territories, Barak refers to these talks as "hot air" and "disconnected from reality."
At
the same time, Barak is preparing the ground for a wide-scale ground
operation in the Gaza Strip. He has already declared on several
occasions that every passing day brings us closer to such operation.
Comments: Ehud Barak has gone from Dove to Hawk and it just makes you wonder what his motives are. Barak is the most decorated soldier in Israel’s history but the public will not soon forget Barak’s blunders as prime minister. Like the article mentioned, he was the prime who minister who “proposed a withdrawal from 90 percent of the territories including Arab neighborhoods in east Jerusalem” and orchestrated the withdrawal from southern Lebanon that had the IDF running back to Israel with Hezbollah hot on their heels. Many Israeli’s blame Barak’s for the war with Hezbollah last summer.
Now it seems like Barak has come full circle and is taking the same line as Netanyahu. If there was an election right now, Bibi would win hands down because the majority of Israel (like Netanyahu) does not want to relinquish the West bank and Jerusalem. Barak may have come to his senses but must convince the public that he is for real.
The recent air strike in Syria would not have taken place if Amir Peretz was still the defense Minister, Peretz would not have taken the risk that Barak has taken and pulled it off with amazing style. Barak is keen to go into Gaza, does not want to relinquish land, and is willing to take a hard line for Israel. Keep an eye on Barak, his popularity will continue to grow if he takes the Bibi line. One thumb goes up for Ehud Barak.

Israeli, Palestinian leaders to begin work on joint vision of final
peace deal
Source: AP
01 October2007 – Israeli and Palestinian leaders meet this week to work on a joint vision of a peace deal.
Aides to Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (EH'-hood OHL'-murt) say he'll host Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas (mahk-MOOD' ah-BAHS') Wednesday at his residence in Jerusalem.
The two are trying to come up with a joint document to present at a peace conference being planned in the U.S. in November. Still, the two sides are far apart on how specific the proposal should be. Palestinians want a detailed framework agreement, while Israel wants a shorter and vaguer statement.
Separately, Palestinian officials have drafted their own proposed outline of a peace deal and are circulating it among Palestinian leaders for comment. Their draft sets a timeline for a peace process, proposes swapping land with Israel and demands the return of parts of Jerusalem.
Israel is likely to
object to a timeline and division of Jerusalem.
Comments: If Israel comes to an agreement before the November summit then Israel has much to worry about. Many Christians don’t know it but the battle for Jerusalem has already begun. The bible tells us that before Jesus comes back, Israel will once again loose parts of their covenant land and that Jerusalem will be divided. Jerusalem is the city that God chose out of all other cities and it is where Jesus will set up his throne on earth.
Many Churches today have set themselves in the place of Israel and believe that Israel has lost favour with God. This is one of the reasons why Israel is being forced to give up Jerusalem by the international community and the western world, including the United States; they have lost their love for the Jews and gone against the will of God. Christians need to take a stand with Israel. Ge 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee:
Keep an eye on Jerusalem and this draft timeline for a peace process. We are nearing midnight and need to watch like never before.
Da 11:39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
Joe 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
Zec 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
1Ki 14:21 ¶ And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
