EU's Solana in Egypt for talks on
Mideast peace
Source: Earth Times
04 September 2007 – European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana arrived in Egypt late Tuesday for talks with Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit and Arab League Chief Amr Mussa regarding the region's dormant peace process. On a multi-leg tour in the region, Solana is holding preparatory talks ahead of a major US-sponsored international conference on Middle East peace, due in Washington this autumn.
The much-anticipated parley was called for by US President George W Bush.
Sources in Egypt's presidential office said that the EU envoy is expected to hold dinner talks with Mussa Tuesday night. Wider discussions will follow on Wednesday, where Solana and Abul-Gheit will exchange points of view.
A top priority during the two-day visit to Egypt is to condense efforts to mobilize Arab-Israeli peace talks, bringing the Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiating table and jump- starting a stagnant and problematic peace process.
Solana held similar talks in Amman on Monday, where the Jordanians had suggested that the proposed conference should lead to "real progress on the Palestinian track and the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state within a specific period of time."
Comments:
After a long “hiatus” I am back posting again and it looks like the
news has been really been heating up since I have been away. The
Middle East peace process, The European Union, Iran, Iraq and Wild
weather are all topping the news right now so there is no shortage
of exciting news relating to biblical prophecy that seems to be
building up. The most significant event is that Ehud Olmert is on
the verge of handing over the West Bank to the Palestinians and
dividing Jerusalem. High level leaders have been visiting the Middle
East including Javier Solana the last three days (Egypt today) with
Tony Blair hot on his heels. All this is in preparation for an
important summit meeting being prepared for this November and it
looks like it will be taking place as planned. I know I will be
covering all this as the news unfolds over the next 3 months.
EU neighbourhood policy divisions exposed
Source: EU Observer
04
September 2007 –
Ministers from within
the EU and from its neighbouring countries gathered for the first
time on Monday (3 September) to discuss the bloc's neighbourhood
policy, but the meeting highlighted the
strong divisions about what such a policy should mean.
Ukraine, which has made no secret of its EU membership ambitions,
refused to see the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) as the sole
means of bilateral relations with Brussels. "The ENP cannot be
accepted as an adequate basis for EU-Ukrainian relations", Ukraine
ambassador Roman Shpek said at the conference.
Designed with the objective of offering EU neighbours closer – or
privileged – cooperation with the bloc,
the ENP does not offer EU membership – something clearly
underlined by Germany.
"The ENP is a separate issue from EU membership. It doesn't open any
doors", German state minister Gunter Gloser stated.
Newer member states took up Ukraine's side, however. Poland - one of
Kiev's most loyal allies within the EU, underlined both Ukraine and
Moldova's "European identity" and the fact that the ENP should not
stop European countries from "pursuing [their] EU ambition".
"Countries like Ukraine and Moldova have this vocation", Polish
foreign minister Anna Fotyga said.
"We have to keep the door open, even if it's on the long term",
Hungarian foreign minister Kinga Goncz added.
Comments: The European Union has just finished an important European neighbourhood policy meeting with an objective of strengthening that initiative. However this union made up of 27 full members and 16 ENP countries (6 eastern and 10 Southern Med.) countries want more but can never really obtain the prize. The division in this union is simple the ENP does not offer EU membership, only partnership. It is this reason that the union is deeply divided Here is another quote from another article,
EU meets all its close neighbours
The European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) is worth 12bn euros or $16bn dollars over the next seven years. The EU makes the same offer to all neighbours - money, trade and wide-ranging co-operation - in exchange for economic and political reforms. But the union is deeply divided over how close it should get to them.
The ENP covers Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in the east, as well as Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria and Tunisia to the south.
Comments continued… it is for this reason that I believe that the European Union along with the ENP countries, could be the Empire which are the feet spoken of in Daniel Ch 2. In other words Dan 2:43 will say that this union will not unite one to another just as the news explains.
Da 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
Da 2:42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
