Flooding Ravages Africa, Millions Displaced
Source: AHN

16 September 2007 – Officials have warned of an upsurge in water-borne diseases in heavily flooded areas across Africa. The water surge has destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes in the region and killed tens of villagers in 17 countries in West, Central and East Africa.

The severe flooding has been described as a humanitarian disaster as most of the continent's most fertile farmland has been washed away. The United Nations has warned of more rains and urged donors for food, shelter and medicine.

Elizabeth Byrs, spokeswoman for the U.N. says, "The rains are set to continue and we are really concerned because a lot of people are homeless and infectious diseases could emerge. Some of the poorest countries, like Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger - the poorest nation in the world - are badly affected."

The U.N. said the floods could lead to locust infestations and outbreaks of diseases such as cholera and dysentery.

The East African countries of Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan were the most affected by the flooding, where over 250,000 Sudanese were left homeless. The same number of people were ravaged in Uganda, with some villages cut off.

Comments:
More devastating flooding and this time it is in Africa. According to this article 17 countries are affected and there is no doubt that this will lead to a major crisis in Africa. There doesn’t look like there will be much relief to some of these hard hit areas as more rain is in the forecast. Some news reports are also saying that these are the worst floods to hit Africa in living memory. We have heard this same type of news so many times this year that we can only wonder how many records will continue to be broken. Europe, Asia, the U.S. and many more areas have seen the worst flooding ever recorded in their history. Parts of India are going through much of the same right now Bangladesh flood death toll crosses 1,000 and over 2.5 million people are displaced or marooned by rising river waters. Floods, great earthquakes, drought, disease, Famine, and a whole list of other disasters are wreaking havoc on the planet and the scale of these unnatural events is increasing. These are not normal times we are living in.

Lu 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

World should brace for possible war over Iran: France
Source: Breitbart

16 September 2007 The world should brace for a possible war over the Iranian nuclear crisis but seeking a solution through talks should take priority, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Sunday.

"We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war," he said in an interview broadcast on French television and radio.

"We must negotiate right to the end," with Iran, he said, but underlined that if Tehran possessed an atomic weapon, it would represent "a real danger for the whole world."

"We are trying to put in place plans which are the privilege of chiefs of staff and that is not for tomorrow," he said, referring to military plans but stressed that although any attack on Iran was far from taking place, "It is normal for us to plan" for any eventuality.

Kouchner said France wanted the European Union to prepare sanctions against Iran, outside the ambit of the UN Security Council, to force Tehran to forsake its nuclear ambitions.

"We have decided that while negotiations are continuing ... to prepare eventual sanctions outside the ambit of UN sanctions. Our good friends, the Germans, suggested that," he said.

Gates: US favors diplomacy with Iran
Source: Jpost

16 September 2007 – But earlier Sunday, the Daily Telegraph reported that Bush and his associates were seriously considering declaring war on Iran and have even listed specific facilities that would be targeted in such an event, while Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has slowly given up the idea of finding a diplomatic solution to the country's persistence in enriching uranium.

According to senior US defense and intelligence officials that spoke with the Telegraph, the Pentagon has gathered a list of up to 2,000 targets including a major base run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force in the south.

Pentagon and CIA officers said that such a war would come to pass as a result of a "carefully calibrated program of escalation" that would lead to a "military showdown with Iran," the officials told the newspaper.

This scenario could arise once it was apparent that diplomatic efforts with the country were hopeless. When Iran would be internationally denounced for its interference in Iraq, the US could conduct cross border raids on Iranian training camps and bomb factories.

The report said that the raids would provoke a "major Iranian response" that could result in a halt to Gulf oil supplies; this in turn, said experts, would provide legitimacy to strike Iran's nuclear facilities and armed forces.

Comments:  Update; the sabres continue to rattle over Iran, just the same as it was prior to the war with Iraq and Saddam Hussein. A war with Iran will be felt globally especially if Gulf oil supplies come to a grinding halt in the Straight of Hormuz. 40 percent of the world’s oil passes through this straight and if a war with Iran halted this shipping, much of the world would come to a grinding halt. Iran continues to defy the international community and enrich Uranium in their rush to build a bomb and destroy Israel. If Bush doesn’t declare war on Iran, Israel will take matters into their hands if need be. The incident in Syria by the IAF only confirms that Israel will not sit by and watch Iran build a bomb to destroy them. The latest word is that 8 aircraft plus an AWACS aircraft may have been involved. Was Israeli raid a dry run for attack on Iran?

Adding up all the news that we see circulating around the internet should tell us that either the U.S. or Israel or both will hit Iran. When it comes, keep an eye on the straights.
