Israel’s Defence Minister Barak refuses to distribute gas masks

Source: Jerusalem Post

August 13, 2007 -- Defence Minister Ehud Barak will not order the distribution of gas masks, despite intelligence reports that Syria has built up an arsenal of missiles that can carry biological and chemical warheads, Army Radio reported on Monday.

According to military assessments, Syria is nearing the end of an accelerated deployment of a large rocket arsenal of Katyusha and Scud missiles capable of reaching Tel Aviv and causing thousands of civilian casualties.

IDF assessment: Syria thinks Olmert wants to launch war. However, Barak has decided to avoid taking any concrete action out of fear that distribution of gas masks could be interpreted as preparation for war.

MK Yuval Steinitz (Likud), who heads the Knesset Subcommittee on the Home Front's Preparedness, slammed the defence minister's decision.

"The decision not to hand out masks so as not to upset the Syrians reminds me of Moshe Dayan's unfortunate decision not to call up the reserves so as not to upset the Syrians and the Egyptians on the eve of the Yom Kippur War," he said.

Comments:  Cherub face Ehud Barak is playing with the lives of Israeli Jews living in close proximity to Syria.  Tel Aviv is a prime example of modern Israel and this city is very susceptible to a biological and chemical attack from Syria’s revamped military.  The Russians, Iranians and North Koreas have steadily supplied Syria with deadly weapons of mass destruction and the necessary payload carriers to lob them at Israeli cities and towns with precision.  Gas masks ought to be supplied to citizens on a rotating basis because of their relatively short shelf life.

Frightened citizens are shaking their heads wondering what’s up with Barak?  Why is he exposing his people to certain suffering and death?  He doesn’t want to provoke Syria?  Who is he kidding?  An unprepared civilian population without the necessary protection is inviting a pre-emptive strike.  But, Barak is banking that Syria’s young unproven President Bashar al-Assad will follow the late Saddam Hussein’s example of not deploying Scud missiles with a biological and chemical payload when 39 Scuds landed inside Israel during 1991’s Desert Storm.  “Discretion is the better part of valour”, they say.  I say “Better be safe than sorry”, but then, I’m not Israel’s most decorated general and current Defence Minister.  Perhaps, he believes God will protect His people no matter what.

Richard Curtis shames Bill Hybels & Christians for lack of action against poverty

Source: THE CHRISTIAN POST

August 13, 2007 -- Some 100,000 church leaders across the globe witnessed a “disturbing” interview between influential pastor Bill Hybels and an Oscar-nominated screenwriter over the weekend.

The interview was with Richard Curtis, a comedy writer and a leading figure in campaigning to fight global poverty. It was featured as a pre-recorded interview at the highly prominent Willow Creek Leadership Summit with live videocast in cities around the world beaming from South Barrington, Ill., near Chicago.

"This was a very disturbing interview for me to do," said Hybels, senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, to tens of thousands of pastors, "because I'm interviewing a guy who doesn't even have his faith figured out and he's doing 100 times more work than I am to alleviate the suffering in this world."

Part of Curtis' inspiration to fight poverty came from the Sermon on the Mount, one of the best known teachings of Jesus, Curtis told Hybels in the interview. But he did not indicate that faith was the driving force behind his passion to care for the poor.

"All I know is that a guy over there should not be dying when I have so much," he said.

"I can only really do one thing well. I can write comedy," he said in the interview. "But I'll ruthlessly do the thing that I do to try to rectify this general injustice."

While Curtis has helped make strides in halving global poverty, he made it clear that if all the churches in the world took a central stance on the issue and on their "God-given duty," the goal could really be achieved within the next decade.

"You can't just pray for people," said Curtis. "You've got to do something now."

It was a major challenge posed to Christian leaders participating in the three-day Leadership Summit.

More churches are beginning to leverage their time and resources to those suffering around the world.

Hybels dreams of the day when it's normal for every church in the world to help alleviate poverty.

"We've got a guy who's not even sure about his faith, cheering the church on, saying we can knock it (poverty) out," said Hybels of Curtis. "The local church is the hope of the world but we've got to be engaged in it."

The Willow Creek Leadership Summit is one of the world's most premier leadership training events and this year featured a world-class line-up of guests and speakers, including exclusive interviews with former president Jimmy Carter and former secretary of state Colin Powell.

Comments:  Matthew 26: [11] For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. Richard Curtis was partly right.  Yes, as believers in Jesus Christ, we ought to exhibit practical Christianity and help out the unsaved in a material way.  It’s counterproductive to give a panhandler the Gospel of God only and leave it at that when the downtrodden soul is obviously hungry and needs a square meal.  The proper thing to do is take him into a coffee shop and administer to his temporal need.  True Christianity isn’t only about winning souls to the Lord, but also to display Jesus’s love for all souls.

On the flip side of the coin, Jesus said that the poor we’ll always have with us.  World poverty will never be completely eradicated no matter how much money is thrown at it.  Sin produces consequences and poverty is a by-product of man’s rebellion against God.  To join with the unsaved in fighting global poverty and put aside preaching the Good News is not what the Holy Spirit would have us to do.  The social gospel tends to temporal needs of wayward mankind, but doesn’t minister to the eternal soul.  A man could be cured of HIV and be as well fed as round table knight, but if he didn’t receive Jesus as Saviour when he died, he’ll be in Hell.  Social gospel activities are noble in their aim, but to concentrate solely on them is to take our eyes off of Jesus and contribute to make this world a better place for sinners and prepare a welcome carpet for the Antichrist’s arrival.

RFID implantable biochips to be inserted in the back of the hand or front of the head

Source: www.campaignfortruth.com

August 13, 2007 -- GPS technology took a quantum leap with the development of bionics capable of being tracked by satellite once implanted in animals or humans. These tiny devices, powered by a lithium battery, could be geographically detected, using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), to within inches anywhere on the surface of the planet. Lithium is employed as a miniature power-plant for the chip since it self-energises through changes in the host's body temperature. Thus the site for the implant will usually be those body parts demonstrating the greatest variations in temperature - in the back of the hand or front of the head. Lithium does have one drawback, experts say. It produces an infection when brought into contact with exposed organic tissue.

Comments:  Revelation 13:[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads.  We’re getting closer and closer to the Mark of the Beast.  The Antichrist is even at the door.  The Rapture event precedes his unveiling to the world, therefore we expect to be out of here soon!

Hundreds of years ago, Christians must have wondered what the above verse was referring to.  A mark in their right hand or in their foreheads could have meant a branding iron mark of some sort, like branding cattle.  Oh that would be so excruciating painful for anyone human being to endure.  The mark would leave such a burnt scar that there would be no way to hide it.

Today, implanted chips are a reality.  They are inexpensively produced and they allay the citizens’ fear of kidnapping, being lost in the wilderness, etc.  The concerns about privacy and government monitoring of their whereabouts and their financial transactions are certainly on people’s minds.  But, governments use the 9/11 terrorist attacks as a reminder that personal safety is paramount and who can argue about that?  Big Brother will keep us safe and sound.  Government propaganda and brainwashing at their finest.  People will be lining up like a $150M Powerball draw to be willing chip implant recipients.

It’s been said that lithium produces sores in the area where it’s located.  I wonder about Revelation 16:[11] And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Israel asks EU assembly to not host UN panel on rights of Palestinians

Source: www.ynetnews.com

August 13, 2007 -- Israel has asked the European Parliament not to provide space this month for a two-day UN panel meeting on the rights of Palestinians, saying the UN group co-hosting it has an anti-Israel record.

Ran Curiel, the Israeli envoy to the European Union, wrote a letter last week to EU parliament president Hans-Gert Poettering asking him to prevent the planned Aug. 30-31 conference from taking place at the EU assembly's building in Brussels, Israeli officials said. They said Curiel also wrote to a few dozen EU parliamentarians to complain about the planned conference, which is to be held under the auspices of the UN's Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

Comments:   Palestinian rights to the exclusion of Israel’s rights.  Where’s the fairness in that?  For the better part of 6 decades, all we hear in the news media from the showboat Yasser Arafat and his lackey successor Mahmoud Abbas is that Palestinian rights are being trampled on by the bully Israel.  The Palestinians never had a state in “Palestine”.  They were there as squatters because Israel held the title deed to land given to her by God.  The only rights were rights that Israel freely gave away like Oprah Winfrey gave away cars to her Chicago audience.

The last thing Israel needs prior to the planned November 2007 International Peace Conference in Washington, D.C. is a media circus such as this scheduled August 30-31 conference to take place at the EU assembly's building in Brussels.  The “poor downtrodden” Palestinians will get to air their dirty laundry and make Israel look like a greedy profiteering landlord.  The press will have a field day with this one.  The aftermath will tie Israel’s hands from a negotiating standing at the Washington conference.  She’ll be pressured even more to give, give, and give until she bleeds internally.  Just stitch her up, discharge her and send her home in abject pain.
