Shimon Peres to seek peace as Israel's president
Source: Winnipeg Free Press Online/Associated Press
Elder statesman Shimon Peres took office as Israel's ninth president Sunday, pledging to devote his seven-year term in the ceremonial post to his lifelong dream of Middle East peace.
Taking his oath of office before parliament, Peres, 83, said Israel must make peace with the Palestinians and Arab countries through measures small and large, including co-operatively digging a canal and lakes in the desert between Israel and Jordan.
He has long been among the most dovish members of the Israeli leadership. He said in a half-hour interview with The Associated Press before his swearing-in that despite the constraints of his new job, he would not halt his efforts for peace with the Palestinians.
He said that would require Israel to withdraw from significant pieces of territory captured in the 1967 Mideast War, a position still opposed by large parts of the Israeli public.
"We have to get rid of the territories," he said, referring to the West Bank.
Peres even expressed hope of making peace with arch-enemy Iran.
"After such a long career, let me just say something: My appetite to manage is over. My inclination to dream and to envisage is greater," he said.
He said he would use the presidency to "encourage" the government to take steps for peace, offer advice to the country's leaders and "speak to the people."
Comments: Get this dude a straight jacket! He’s demented. How else do you explain Israel’s eldest politician (two times prime minister) making such an asinine suggestion of getting rid of the territories? An Israel without Judea and Samaria is like the Roman Catholic Church without Vatican City. Israel would be reduced to the size of the state of Rhode Island and one would need a magnifying glass to locate Israel on the revised map. The name ‘Peres’ means “divided” and he’ll stop at nothing to give away the shop in return for peace and security for Israel. Being the new president of Israel, he has a high profile (albeit a ceremonial) post and he’ll do his best to cozy up to foreign dignitaries to push his “divide Israel” campaign. God help Israel.
If Peres weren’t so old and his personality as exciting as a game of seniors’ lawn bowling, his 7-year term as president and his determination to divide the land for gain (fame and fortune), he would been a leading contender to be the Antichrist. At the very least, he will be pushing hard for Israel’s real leaders to secure peace with the Arab/Muslim world. Daniel 11:[39] Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain. Daniel 5:[28] PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

Pope Benedict plans New York visit for 2008
Source: USA Today
Pope Benedict XVI hopes to visit New York and Lourdes, France, in 2008, and also plans to deliver an important speech to diplomats during his upcoming trip to Vienna, the Vatican spokesman said Sunday.
The Rev. Federico Lombardi did not specify what the speech would cover during the pope's Sept. 7-9 trip to Austria. Lombardi said Benedict would deliver an "internationally important" speech to diplomats accredited to Vienna-based international organizations.
He said early plans are underway for a papal trip to the shrine at Lourdes, to mark the 150th anniversary of the apparition of the Madonna.
"We also hope to go to the United Nations," Lombardi said.
Benedict said as he arrived in Lorenzago on Monday that he hoped to start writing the second volume of his book "Jesus of Nazareth" while on vacation. He also said he would begin writing an encyclical, which Lombardi said would be on a "social theme." News reports have suggested it would cover issues of globalization.
Comments: New York, New York 2008. The pope’s visit might give a much needed boost to Rudy `` the cross dresser ``Julie Annie’s and Hillary Clinton’s (the transplanted senator for NY State) presidential candidate bids. He’s going to the Big Apple to mingle with some of the UN’s big wigs. He’ll shake the hand of the new UN Chief Ki-Moon. Much of America will fall prostrate before the pontiff. His ``holiness`` will soak in all the accolades and kudos sent his way. He’ll pronounce his blessing on the U.S. He might even meet with the trillionaire Rockefellers and get a tour of the Federal Reserve. He may gently (of course) urge the Rockefellers to help out more the world’s poor. From there, he’ll be whisked off to France to pray to the Madonna (no, I don’t mean the Material Girl Madonna). For an elderly pontiff, his 2008 and beyond seem to be exciting. Little does he realize that he’s living perilously close to ending up in Hell. There’s a saying. `The best paid plans of men and mice go awry`. He better watch out for his immortal soul.

Iraq PM: Country can manage without the U.S.
Source: www.star-telegram.com
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saturday that the Iraqi army and police are capable of keeping security in the country when American troops leave "any time they want," though he acknowledged the forces need further weapons and training.
The embattled prime minister sought to show confidence at a time when congressional pressure is growing for a withdrawal and the Bush administration reported little progress had been made on the most vital of a series of political benchmarks it wants al-Maliki to carry out.
Al-Maliki said difficulty in enacting the measures was "natural" given Iraq's turmoil.
Comments: If the Yankees go home, Iraq would be peaceful. Oh really? This American installed Iraqi lackey is a marble or two short of a set. Presently, bomb explosions are as frequent as an acne breakout on a teenager’s face. Yes, the message being sent by the Iraqi Shiites is: “Go home America”, but also, when the U.S. is gone, the Shiites will massacre the Sunnis. It will be the sequel to Cambodia’s Killing Fields and the Rwanda genocide. Only a Western military force will be able to stave off the Iranian planned occupation of Iraq. Iraqis couldn’t even rise up in arms against their own Saddam Hussein who was a killing machine in his own right. The Iranians are more fierce and sadistic than Saddam’s Revolutionary Guards. Blood will flow all the way to the Euphrates River once America pulls out its troops.

President Bush to reaffirm commitment to ME peace and PA State
Source: Jerusalem Post
US President George W. Bush intends to reaffirm his commitment to Middle East peace and outline how the US can help the Palestinian leadership make the transition to a viable state that can exist with Israel, a White House aide said Sunday.
In remarks planned Monday, Bush is seeking to bolster the embattled Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. His Fatah Party now controls only the West Bank since Hamas took power in Gaza earlier this year.
National security adviser Stephen Hadley said Bush would discuss US financial and diplomatic support for Abbas's PA.
"The president sees there is an opportunity there now to show the Palestinian people a choice between the kind of violence and chaos under Hamas in Gaza and the prospect, under President Abbas and Prime Minister Saalem Fayad, for an effective democratic Palestinian state that can be on the way toward what we all want, which is a two-state solution, a Palestinian homeland for the Palestinian people," Hadley said.
Comments: The three biggest benefactors to Middle East peace brokered by President Bush would be: (1) Mr. Bush (2) Republican Party presidential lead hopeful (3) Arabs and Muslims. For Mr. Bush, he will certainly win the 2008 or 2009 Nobel Peace Prize and a long lasting legacy, a crowning of his 2-term presidency. The Republican Party trails the Democrats badly in the presidential race and need an injection of euphoria. The Arabs and Muslims will use the newly formed state of Palestine as a stage for further military attacks against Israel. President Clinton tried to wine, dine and strong arm Yasser Arafat and Israeli PM Ehud Barak at Camp David in July 2000 and he was this close (but no cigar) to achieving Middle East peace. Mr. Bush doesn’t hold a candle to Bill Clinton’s charisma and people’s skills, but if God’s timetable says Middle East is imminent, then Israel will enter into a comprehensive peace with Islam.

Dialogue unites Catholics and Mennonites
Source: Winnipeg Free Press Online
She worships in her local Catholic parish, worked for the Anglicans and lives in the heart of a Mennonite neighbourhood, which makes ecumenism part of daily life for Diane Skalenda.
"I embrace all Christians and non-Christians. We're all God's people," explains the North Kildonan resident who recently retired after five years with the Anglican Diocese of Rupert's Land. "I would like to see all the lines between denominations disappear."
Skalenda followed her passion for ecumenism by participating in an eight-month ground-breaking congregational dialogue between Catholics and Mennonites, which formally concluded last month.
The Winnipeg dialogue, thought to be unique in North America, grew out of an international discussion between the Roman Catholic Church and the Mennonite World Conference between 1998 and 2003. That five-year dialogue marked the first time in five centuries the two denominations had a formal conversation, explains Winnipeg theologian Helmut Harder, one of the Mennonite representatives at the international consultation.
Named after their leader Menno Simons, Mennonites broke away from the Catholic church during the 16th century Reformation. Also known as Anabaptists because of their belief in baptizing adults, Mennonites are also known for their strong position on peace and refusal to bear arms.
Catholics outnumber Mennonites about 10 to 1 in Manitoba, with about 350,000 Catholics and 35,000 Mennonites. Worldwide, there are about 1.5 million Mennonites and 1.1 billion Catholics.
"I was so pleased that the Mennonites were so open to the Catholic faith," she explains of her experience in the group. "I was so pleased Mennonites had such respect for our tradition and that Mennonites were so knowledgeable."
And for a Catholic living in a predominantly Mennonite neighbourhood, the experience of the last eight months demonstrates that the people of God can rise above denominational lines.
"We all have different ways of practising our faith. We have some different practices, but if we follow the gospel, we're just Christians," says Skalenda.
Comments: John 8:[44] Ye are of your father the Devil. Yes, God created all human life, but a person who’s not the Lord’s has the Devil as his/her father. We have said it over and over again that the vast majority of the 1.1 billion Roman Catholics in the world are not saved because their leader, the pope, preaches another gospel (faith PLUS works PLUS indulgences PLUS sacraments) which the Apostle Paul pronounced anathema to them that do so. Someone ought to inform Ms. Skalenda about this. She’s a representative of many blind souls who have bought into the Devil’s lie.
Mennonites have nothing to gain by participating in the RRC’s creation, ecumenism. But, like so many Protestant denominations who emphasize love, tolerance, acceptance, inter-faith togetherness, the Mennonites see nothing but the positives in opening their arms to the RCC and are considering the idea of returning home to the mother church. Most Mennonites are social gospel proponents and promoters of love, peace, harmony, and interfaith outreach. They’re not concerned with mingling and working with various denominations that profess to be Christian. Mennonites just see themselves with working to make this world a better place for everyone, Christian and nonChristian alike.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and French president Nicolas Sarkozy are considering whether to send EU troops to Chad to protect refugees from Darfur.
French newspaper La Croix reported that the two had discussed the idea during a meeting on Thursday (12 July).
"We talked about the possibility of rapidly deploying — in cooperation with the president of Chad — an interim EU force that would protect refugee camps in Chad, while awaiting the deployment of a UN police force," Mr Solana was reported as saying.
Comments: A dear elderly brother in Christ used to say to me “When you have cream, why bother with skim milk?” Well, we all know how inefficient the light blue helmeted UN troops are. If Don Rickles wasn’t alive, the UN military would be the sole laughing stock around. After the people of Chad have had EU troops in their country for a while, they’ll protest the substitution of the EU units with the UN rag tag military.
The EU is finally taking on the role of world policemen that used to be the calling card of the USA. Africa is after all much closer to the EU’s backyard than the U.S. Chad will be a testing ground for the EU military. The results will be documented. All data and information will be examined with a fine tooth comb. The next EU military mission will be more prepared and so on. Many Bible prophecy students say the EU will produce the Antichrist. As the world’s sole fascist dictator, he will be backed up by a strong military of which the present EU military is the precursor. America will gradually pull out their military units worldwide as the UN and then the EU military takes over as the world’s No. 1 supercop.
