Baptist Megachurch makes history electing woman to the pulpit

June 20, 2007 -- Julie Pennington-Russell was voted on Sunday to become senior pastor of an Atlanta-area megachurch. The historic decision that went without dispute makes the congregation the largest church of Southern Baptist heritage to be led by a woman.

 

"Without a doubt, this is a major development," commented the Rev. R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and one of America's pre-eminent Evangelical leaders, in a blog post when initial reports about Pennington-Russell's near-confirmation as head of First Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia, came out.

 

In a closed session on Sunday after morning worship, some 500 members elected the married mother of two to lead the nearly 2,700-member church, according to The Waco Tribune-Herald. Only five hands of dissent were visible at most, said First Baptist's interim pastor, Dock Hollingsworth.

 

Comments:  1 Timothy 2:[12] But I suffer (allow) not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.  Women in the pulpit are as controversial as the ordaining of homosexuals.  Both constitute open defiance of the Word of God.  A long standing conservative Protestant ‘straight as an arrow’ denomination (Southern Baptist) has ignored a directive of the Apostle Paul who spoke with authority from God.  The epistles of Paul have been under a constant barrage of attacks from within Christendom by those who assert that the New Testament four Gospel books have a higher authority.  Such a 2‑tier belief is a deception sown by the Devil.

 

Where are the males in the churches these days?  In a megachurch such as the First Baptist Church of Decatur, there wasn’t even one qualified man to pastor the congregation?  Did the female churchgoers strong‑arm their hubbies and boyfriends in electing Ms. Pennington-Russell? Were the males too scared to speak up?  Feminism has produced a basketful of by‑products over the past 40 years, e.g. married women retaining their maiden name or adding it to their married surname, Gloria Steinman, Helen Reddy’s marching song “I am Woman. Hear Me Roar”, pay and employment equity, God addressed as Mother, women teachers and preachers from the pulpits.  As you drive around the USA and Canada, many a church lawn has a sign advertising a female church leader.  The feminization of Christendom has men cowering under the bed hiding their lighted candles.

UK abortions set record

June 20, 2007 -- More than 200,000 women had abortions last year, the highest number ever, figures show today.

 

Almost 4,000 of the 201,173 procedures carried out in England and Wales were on girls under 16, the legal age of consent for sex.

 

The total rose by almost four per cent last year on 2005. The increase is being blamed on a crisis in contraception services.

 

Comments:  Galatians 5:[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Revelation 9:[21] Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts  Pro-choice?  Yeah, right!  The choice of British women to commit infanticide is what it is.  For every sin, there is a consequence with God.  Killing of the unborn is so despicable with the Lord that I dare surmise that the punishment will be extremely severe.  Since the Roe vs. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision in 1973, over 40 millions U.S. fetuses have been butchered.  Worldwide that number is in the countless millions.  In China and in India, female newborns are drowned or strangled by the hundred millions almost immediately after being delivered.  The cries of the helpless innocent ascend into Heaven.  Can God’s wrath upon the murderers (abortionists, mothers, Planned Parenthood, governments) of this world be restrained any longer?

 

The UK is morally bankrupt.  Church attendance has drastically declined as the abortion numbers swell.  As the population thumb their noses at God, mock His Word, leave Jesus out in the cold, embrace homosexuality, and live narcissist lives, the natural affection for their own and others fades like an old photograph.  Matthew 24:[12] And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Mint releases more 'Godless' dollars

June 20, 2007 -- It looks like the U.S. Mint has struck again , or not struck again, depending on how you look at it. New dollar coins featuring John Adams are missing edge inscriptions including "In God We Trust," according to the Professional Coin Grading Service, a rare coin authentication company based in Newport Beach, California.

 

The company said people have found hundreds of Adams dollar coins without the edge lettering, repeating a previous mistake. In March, an unknown number of George Washington dollar coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint without "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum," and the year and mint mark inscribed on the edge.

 

Comments:  Mistakes are unexpected or unplanned events that people regret making.  To do something intentional is not considered a mistake.  The big wigs in the U.S. Mint made a conscious decision to leave God out of some coins.  This most blessed of countries, the US of A, used to honour God.  Many of the founding fathers were God fearing, God honouring Christians.  Today, the U.S. can hardly be referred to as a Christian country why with all the sins and depravity that are gripping this nation like a vice.  Following the EU’s footsteps, America is bent on eradicating God, Jesus and the Bible from the daily lives of its citizens.  Many faiths and religions, after all, do not worship the same God that Christian America does although you can’t tell from President Bush’s pronouncement that Islam and Christianity believe in the same God.

 

Humanism and the love of self have taken over the worship of God.  There’s no room for the Creator of the Universe.  Each humanoid can be a little god, so says the small voices that are broadcast into people’s minds.  No longing giving thanks for the food that God provides, the billions of Earthlings trust in self and the cosmic force that is in each of us.  Occultism and the New Age spirituality swarm over all of us.  God help us!  Psalm 9:[17] The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

Morgan Freeman back as God in "Evan Almighty" Noah's Ark comedy

Newly elected to Congress, Evan (Steve Carell, who landed the position of anchorman over Bruce Nolan in Bruce Almighty) leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark because of a flood coming upon the earth. But his befuddled family just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.

 

The ark was designed to meet the actual measurements of the biblical ark, measuring 450 feet long, 80 feet wide and 51 feet high.

 

Comments:  WeDG Co‑Moderator Michael Jones commented that the original Noah’s Ark was built only to float by riding out the rain and subsequent deluge that God would send to destroy the entire earth.  The Ark wasn’t meant to be navigated thus a wedged bow shown in this article wasn’t as stable as a rectangular box like shape.  The world doesn’t dig deep into the Scriptures to learn of the finer details of God’s Word.  Did you know that after all the pairs of distinctive classes of animals and Noah and his family went into the Ark, the door was permanently shut never to be opened again?  (When it was time to leave the Ark, every animal and human being exited by way of a hole in the Ark’s roof.)  The message that God is conveying to people is that judgment is coming upon this world.  Everyone is invited to enter the Ark (a symbol of Jesus Christ) for the door will be permanently shut.  The time is short.

 

The Evan Almighty movie may be funded and produced by unsaved people, but even God can use it to reach people with the Gospel.  Yes, Morgan Freeman *like George Burns before him) playing God is irreverent and yes, there are rude humour and the usual sexual innuendos and yes, many viewers will scoff at the very idea of a soon coming judgment.  Some even heard or read that God promised never again to destroy all life by a flood.  Scoffers will have a field day with Evan Almighty, but God is able to save.  2 Peter 3:[1] This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: [2] That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: [3] Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. [5] For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: [6] Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.

Israel wants Saudis in on peace efforts

June 22, 2007 -- Efforts are under way to get the Saudis to join future meetings like the Israeli, Palestinian Authority, Jordanian and Egyptian summit to be held in Sharm e-Sheikh on Monday, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

 

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert confirmed on Thursday evening that he will attend the summit, which will include Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Jordanian King Abdullah II and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

 

Olmert, at a Keren Hayesod conference in Haifa, said the purpose of the summit was to "jointly work to create the platform that may lead to a new beginning between us and the Palestinians."

 

Olmert, who returned from Washington on Wednesday, said that US President George W. Bush supported the summit, and that Bush "wants to realize, while he is in office, the dream of creating a Palestinian state that lives alongside the State of Israel in peace and security." Bush's term expires in January 2009.

 

Comments:  Daniel 9:[27] And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.   Good.  Get everybody into the peace pot.  That way, you’ll cook up a nice savoury stew.  The current players are: Israel, Egypt, Jordan and the Fatah Party.  Talk about one wedding and three funerals or the four horsemen of the Middle East.  If you invite the oil rich, opulent living, fat cat Saudi sheiks, then you don’t have to worry about the catering bill at the end of the intense high profile meetings.  Besides, the Saudis have all the cash and money talks.  They’ll finance anything if it will make a reasonable return on the investment.

 

Take the contentious issue of the Palestinian refugees’ right to return (to Israel).  Israel has been quite adamant about no refugees being allowed to return to their place of origin.  That would upset the Jews to Arab ratio of 6:1 and before you know it, Israel would be less Kosher and more like Ahab the Arab.  Now, if the Saudis could ante up the bucks and pay off the displaced refugees, that would put that matter on the “solved” ledger.  The Saudis will bring their Peace Plan proposals and Israel will listen as intently as Rosie O’Donnell to the latest fad diet.  Daniel 9:27 speaks about the ‘many’.  Many could be peoples or nations surrounding Israel.  This prophecy fulfillment is nearer by the day, folks.
