EU looks to July 2007 negotiations on treaty

Source: EUObserver.com

May 25, 2007 -- Intergovernmental negotiations to shape the final form of the new EU treaty could start as early as July, according to European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, who sees growing consensus for a simplified treaty.

He told French radio on Thursday that he was optimistic that EU leaders would be able to agree a mandate for the parameters of the talks at a crucial summit next month.

"I think that we can have a clear and precise mandate then for an intergovernmental conference which could start just afterwards, maybe in July," said Mr Barroso.

"So maybe during the Portuguese presidency in the second half of the year, we could have a new treaty which would then be ratified by the different member states," he added.

This outlook is supported by some in the European Parliament who believe that the current German EU presidency, followed by Portugal taking over on 1 July, should strike while the iron is hot and not let the issue grow cold during the two month summer holiday period.

German centre-right MEP Elmar Brok, a veteran of EU treaty negotiations, told EUObserver that he "shares" Mr Barroso's optimistic view that EU leaders can get a tight mandate, believing that as "nobody gets everything that they want" even apparent tough nuts such as Poland and the Czech Republic will be cracked.

If an agreement at the June summit is reached - Berlin wants to see as short a list of areas as possible that have to be re-opened - the European Commission and Parliament will then submit a formal opinion.

After that, it is a matter of member state ministers taking the decision to open the intergovernmental conference - something that can be taken at one of the regular foreign minister meetings.

"This is something that can be done in a very short time," said a commission spokesperson on Thursday, adding that there is a growing tendency to solve things as quickly as possible.

His words came after Mr Sarkozy said he believed EU leaders were "making headway around the idea of a simplified treaty."

Comments:  The EU is finally making some headway in trying to ratify the EU constitution (now preferably known simply as the ‘treaty’).  Thanks to the newly elected French leader Mr Sarkozy who proposed a simplified treaty that’s easier to swallow, the EU train is set to move forward come July 2007.  If the train is permitted to travel unhindered and picks up speed, it’s just a matter of time that there will be an elected EU president serving more than a 6-month rotating term.  He (or she) will be vested with absolute authority to rule for a long term, perhaps 5 to 10 years.  If there’s talk about a 7-year term, dear readers, take out your 1‑way ticket to Heaven and get ready to board Gate Jesus 777 for the Tribulation Period is nigh at hand and the Rapture event that precedes it!

Iranian leader warns Israel it may be ‘uprooted’ if it attacks Lebanon

Source: www.msnbc.msn.com

May 25, 2007 -- “If you think that by bombing and assassinating Palestinian leaders you are preparing ground for new attacks on Lebanon in the summer, I am telling you that you are seriously wrong,” Ahmadinejad told a rally in the city of Isfahan.

“If this year you repeat the same mistake of the last year, the ocean of nations of the region will get angry and will uproot the Zionist regime.”

Comments:  This Ahmadinejad dude, like Peter, has cried “wolf” too many times that people are tuning him out.  His warnings have so far been as hollow as a decayed wood pole.  What will Iran do if Israel sends her troops to assist the Lebanese army in ridding the refuge camps of al-Qaeda operatives?  What if Syria and Hezbollah wage another conflict with Israel along the Lebanon-Israel border?  Does Iran expect Israel to just do nothing and allow the terrorists to kill and maim innocent Israeli citizens?  No, Israel will respond with decisive counterattacks aimed at punishing the attackers.  The Arab and Muslim worlds will, as usual, protest, but that’s about it.  Until Ishmael’s descendents stop their in-fighting, Israel is safe from being overrun by her enemies.

Former top UN weapons inspector: Jihadis searching for nuclear technology to create massive destruction

Source: www.ynetnews.com

May 26, 2007 -- Al-Qaeda is searching for ways to create nuclear weapons for mass destruction, a former UN weapons inspection chief said during a press conference at an international convention ways to prevent a nuclear catastrophe being held in Luxembourg.

Rolf Ekeus, currently High Commissioner at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and formerly Director of the UN Special Commission on Iraq, told reporters that the threat of a nuclear attack on a European city by al-Qaeda was tangible, and that steps are being taken to protect nuclear facilities from which terrorists can obtain enriched uranium.

"Al-Qaeda is searching for nuclear technology," Ekeus said. "They are looking for simple weapons... for mass destruction," he added.

Ekeus said al-Qaeda members "cannot be deterred. They are willing to sacrifice themselves,"

Comments:  There’s a saying, “Seek and you shall find”.  Al-Qaeda is flush with cash (most of it from Egyptian Osama bin Laden’s inheritance money) and sellers of enriched uranium can be found in Russia and Ukraine.  In fact, the Russians could be secretly supplying Al-Qaeda with some already.  Of course, the Russian do not want to be caught doing it so middlemen are involved.

Consider the following possible scenario.  Let’s say the Rapture event just occurred.  The entire world is in mass confusion and disorder.  Al-Qaeda targets nuclear facilities in Europe and the U.S. decimating the free world.  There would be nothing to prevent Russia, Iran and a host of Muslim nations to carry out their planned invasion of Israel.  The probability of nuclear attacks on the West is high.

Debiting by driver's license

Source: www.csnews.com

May 26, 2007 -- Beginning next month, National Payment Card (NPC) will begin rolling out to convenience-store chains a system that enables consumers to pay for gas just by swiping their drivers' licenses and entering a personal identification number.

According to a report by Business Week, consumers enter their driver's license number and bank account information online with NPC. The system then links the driver's license directly, via the existing magnetic stripe, to the consumer's bank account.

Comments:  Just one more way to take away your hard earned money.  What other easy as pie method is next?  It seems that innovative processes of debiting are cropping up as fast as blackheads on a teenager’s face.  The idea is to make it convenient for the consumers.  The drawbacks are that there are too many methods out there.  Also, one has to memorize another set of PINs.  That’s enough to make this driver’s license concept less than ideal.  Eventually, Big Brother will step in and trash all existing debiting schemes and replace them with his chip implanted under the right hand or under the forehead.  Count on it!  Revelation 13:[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Regional currency to replace the U.S. Dollar in Argentina-Brazil trade

Source: en.rian.ru

May 27, 2007 -- Argentina and Brazil, South America's two largest economies, will drop the U.S. dollar in favour of a regional currency in their bilateral trade starting in October 2007, Argentine Economics Minister Felisa Miceli said.

The countries' transition to a new currency, as yet unnamed, is part of a pilot project by the South American continent's major trade alliance, Mercosur, to replace the U.S. currency in internal transactions with money of its own, Miceli said.

Speaking ahead of a Mercosur ministerial session in Paraguay, she said the new currency should eventually spread throughout the bloc, which also includes Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Comments:  The beleaguered U.S. dollar is once more under siege.  If South America does jettison the American currency in favour of a new South American currency, would other nations around the world follow suit?  Last year, Iran turned to the euro and there has been talk of the new North American Union (USA, Canada and Mexico) creating the new ‘Amero’. Let’s face it.  America’s influence in the world is waning.  Other countries are tired of U.S. dominance in this or that.  Many are praying and hoping for the fall of the American Empire.  The Rapture event will pound the final nails into the star spangled coffin.  The post-Rapture currency will be a One World Government currency replacing all existing regional and national currencies.

Shimon Peres to be Kadima's presidential runner

Source: Jerusalem Post

May 27, 2007 -- Vice Premier Shimon Peres will be Kadima's sole candidate for president, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced at the Kadima faction meeting Monday.

Olmert opened the meeting by saying he spoke to Peres a short while ago and that he would do everything in his power to make him the next president of Israel.

"Peres is the man most perfectly suited for this job. His personal history and dedication to Israel has no comparison," Olmert said.

Comments:  The question begs, “Why would Shimon ‘the dove’ Peres want to become President of Israel since the presidential post is just a ceremonial title?”  This peacenik has been prime minister of Israel two times before and now he desires a cushy job.  In the twilight of his long political career, he’s seeking a prestigious high paying job with plenty of perks.  This is his idea of a retirement nest egg I suppose.  In his capacity, he’ll be welcoming foreign heads of state by rolling down the red carpet and ushering them to plush banquet halls to wine and dine on bagels, roast leg of lamb, and kosher meatballs.  Could it be that since he knows he’s long in the tooth and unlikely to be elected prime minister ever again, the next best thing to keep him in the limelight is the presidential post?  That way, when Israel finally makes peace with her Arab neighbours, he’ll be alongside the prime minister as they both receive accolades for a job well done albeit Israel being divided like a side of beef in the hands of a skilled butcher.  “Peres” means “your kingdom is divided”.  How ironic then that the divided land of Israel will lead to “peace” with her enemies.
