Ecumenical passion for moderation

April 4, 2007 -- These are not the brightest times for religious moderates. Mainstream Episcopalians, Methodists, Catholics and the like, they're being upstaged by the more aggressive actors at the polar ends of the spectrum. From Christian conservatives flies rhetoric that pays little heed to the inclusiveness, reasonable tones and subtlety of the ecumenical middle. And from anti-religion author Sam Harris and like-minded atheists comes the damning suggestion that moderates enable violent fundamentalism and that moderation, as Harris puts it, "is the result of not taking Scripture all that seriously."

 

If any conclusions can be drawn from my recent conversations with the voice of religious moderation here in Oregon, those in the measured middle are going to be heard from more in the days ahead. And they take their Scripture very seriously.

 

Comments:  Fence sitting means balancing oneself like Humpty Dumpty from falling off the perch.  In the real world, there’s nothing more irksome than a fence sitter, someone who takes a middle of the road stance on most issues of life.  Whereas evangelical Christians abide by the Bible in a literal sense and atheists say there’s no God, the moderates assume a compromise between literalism and out and out rejection of the Bible and God.  The end result is a spiritual dilution where Biblical principles and God’s precepts are either comprised or rejected outright so not to offend certain people.

 

The statement of faith of mainstream Episcopalians, Methodists, Catholics and the like is loathsome in the sight of God.  The Church of Rome under Emperor Constantine married the church to the world’s system.  Paganism was meshed with Christianity to appease the heathens.  The offshoots of Rome, i.e. the reformed denominations such as the Lutherans, Methodists, etc., didn’t completely divest themselves from the mother church.  They continued the practices of the Roman Catholic Church to this very day and they share the same worldview which includes ecumenism, the coming together of all Christian denominations for the furtherance of unity, harmony, and love for mankind.  It’s so nauseating to God.  Revelation 3:[16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Bob Jones University: 'Your argument is with Bible, not us'

April 4, 2007 -- A team of homosexual activists whose goal is to "dialogue" with Christian colleges about changing their beliefs regarding the "gay" lifestyle is coming to Bob Jones University, but campus officials already have made plans to, very politely, disinvite them from campus.

 

The "Soulforce Equality Riders" several weeks ago launched teams in two buses with directions to head to several dozen Christian colleges and "address discriminatory" policies on those campuses.

 

However, officials at Bob Jones University, a leader in Christian education as well as publishing and ministry, say there's no point in meeting with the group, scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

 

Comments:   Bob Jones University (BJU) is once again embroiled in controversy.  By refusing to accept openly gay and lesbian students, it has been deemed to be discriminatory.  The administration has pointed to the Bible as its authority to turn away such students and if BJU is hauled into court, so be it and let God do battles with the adversaries.  God is always the Victor!

 

Years ago, BJU was labeled racist for not permitting interracial dating among its students and that caused such an uproar that BJU reversed that decision.  But, you can’t possibly compare that with the acceptance of homosexuality.  The former was a school rule while the latter is an abomination in the eyes of God.  The battle lines have clearly been drawn between the purveyors of sins and God’s servants.  The fighting will be fierce as Sodomites attempt to smash down any doors that get in their way and will accelerate as we draw ever closer to the Rapture event.  If the Lord allows us to remain on Earth for a few more years, spiritual casualties will pile up as faint hearted believers cave into the continual onslaught of the Sodomites.  Genesis 13:[13] But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.  Genesis 19:[9] And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

Pope Benedict lauds his predecessor John Paul II

April 4, 2007 -- The worldwide surge of emotion at the death of Pope John Paul II testified to the power of his Christian witness, Pope Benedict XVI  said at an April 2 Mass in St. Peter's Square.

 

Commenting on the day's Gospel, which recounted Mary Magdalene's anointing of Christ's feet with fragrant oil, Pope Benedict noted that the image of fragrance is often used as a metaphor for divine grace. At the death of his predecessor, the Holy Father said, "The fragrance of the faith, the hope, and the love of the Pope filled his residence, filled St. Peter’s Square, filled the Church, and spread to the entire world.”

 

The worldwide acclaim for Pope John Paul II demonstrated the extent of his evangelical efforts, the Pope said. Pope John Paul, he observed, had reached out to the world's people "with an involvement never before seen in history."

 

Pope John Paul always knew that his effectiveness depended completely upon the power of the Cross, Pope Benedict said. The late Pontiff offered his own personal testimony through his own suffering, uniting his physical struggles to the Cross. In "the Calvary of the agony and the serene death of our beloved Pope," Benedict XVI said, was a lesson to all believers.

 

Comments:   Galatians 1:[8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  John Paul II never preached the pure Gospel of God.  Instead, he preached another gospel, a message of faith plus works plus membership in the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) and even then, one can’t even be assured of Heaven.  It’s no wonder the typical Roman Catholic member lives in uncertainty and fear of being dammed in Hell.  John Paul II himself needed a miracle attributed to him in order for Pope Benedict to recommend canonization.  Such is the gross fallacies of this false church that has 1.2 billion souls chained to its pagan based religious system.

 

No pope that I know of has ever extolled the message of Jesus Christ dying and shedding His blood for the forgiveness of sins.  That truth would make the RCC redundant and its members would demand refunds on their contributions to this immensely wealthy prostitute impersonating herself as the only true church on earth.  When Jesus is shunted aside in favor of Mary and the pope, you know it’s unscriptural yet how many RCs dare question their priest and diocese?  John Paul II an evangelist?  Give us a break, please! That’s like intimating that shock jock Howard Stern is a choir boy on Sunday.  The blind souls of this world can’t see the Light for their minds have been blinded by the Devil.  2 Corinthians 4:[4] In whom the god (the Devil) of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Israeli court nixes Passover lamb sacrifice at Temple Mount

April 4, 2007 -- In their efforts to sacrifice a live animal at the Temple Mount, the New Sanhedrin Council adopted an almost underground modus operandi. Rabbis Adin Steinsaltz, Israel Ariel, Yishai Baved and their associates secretly located a butcher, found a Cohen hailing from a lineage 1,000 years old and worked out a plan to quickly erect an alter on the Temple Mount.

 

They tried to revive the customs of the ancient Sanhedrin tribunal, which was the highest judicial body for the Jewish people in Israel some 1,600 years ago.

 

The activists, who belong to various religious circles such as the Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement, also petitioned the High Court of Justice for the right to perform the ritual.

 

Their plans were thwarted yesterday when the court rejected their request, ruling that "the rights of the petitioners to practice their faith are outweighed by other considerations such as public order and safety."

 

Comments:  So ever agonizing close yet so far away. It has always been the Israeli government or court system that has prevented the re-establishment of animal sacrifice on the Temple Mount.  You would think that an Israeli group would defy the law and perform the sacrifice anyway, but God has not allowed it to happen so far.  The Third Temple (Christian prophecy author David R. Reagan said it should be the Fourth Temple) may need to be built on the Temple Mount before animal sacrifice is performed. (Some Christians believe animal sacrifice could be conducted prior to the Third Temple in place.)

 

The Arabs will not presently allow that to happen.  Israelis can thank the late General Moshe Dyan for their predicament.  When the general and his troops recaptured Jerusalem on June 8, 1967 after being in the control of Arabs for centuries, he immediately gave the control of the Temple Mount back to Jordan.  If he hadn’t, would Israel have built the Third Temple way back in 1967 or 1968?  And would the Rapture event had occurred some 40 years ago?  The revealing of the Antichrist?  We probably would be reigning with Christ in the Millennium over the inhabitants at this present moment.  It makes one think of the what ifs.  Of course, we now know that God didn’t allow all these aforementioned events to transpire.  They’re all yet to be fulfilled.

Henry Kissinger hid Yom Kippur War outbreak from President Nixon

April 4, 2007 -- Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger initially kept the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War a secret from then-president Richard M. Nixon, historian Robert Dallek reveals in a new study of the Nixon and Kissinger's foreign policy and personal relationship due to be published in April.

 

Dallek, the author of An Unfinished Life, a biography of John F. Kennedy, delved through previously untapped records of Nixon and Kissinger's partnership, including some 20,000 pages of transcripts of Kissinger's phone conversations, to compile his study Nixon and Kissinger: Partners in Power.

 

According to Dallek, reports that Israel had been attacked reached Washington at approximately 6 am that same day, but Kissinger waited three and a half hours before informing Nixon in order to keep the president from interfering.

 

Comments:  Henry Kissinger isn’t the great man that many people think he is.  Moreover being a Jew himself, he has been no friend of Israel.  The Arabs committed a surprise attack on Israel during Yom Kippur when many Jews were preoccupied with observing this traditional event.  Kissinger apparent received the first word of this ambush and he waited 3.5 hours before notifying President Nixon who could have instantly mobilized the American military to assist the beleaguered Israeli Defence Force.  3.5 hours meant more Israeli casualties than if quick action had been put into effect.  For that, Kissinger is culpable.  A Jew assisting in the battlefield slaughter of fellow Jews.  Oh, how God must be angry with this man!

 

The Yom Kippur War started off badly for Israel.  She was bushwhacked. It seemed that Israel would be overrun by the Egyptians, Syrians, Iraqis and Jordanians.  Then, a miracle happened.  God intervened and the Israeli military turned the tide and routed the enemies even to the point of venturing deep inside Syrian territory.  It was at this juncture in time that the Soviet Union warned President Nixon if he didn’t corral the Israelis, the USSR would intervene (nukes?).  Nixon ordered Israel to back off and the war ended.  Where was Kissinger when the USSR issued its ultimatum?  Perhaps, a document will show up in the future implicating the traitorous Kissinger for conspiring with the Soviets to thwart Israel’s attempt to inflict a mortal wound to Israel’s enemies.

 

President Nixon wasn’t a Jew lover himself.  Archived tapes captured him blaming the Jews for controlling the media and Hollywood and he even coerced Billy Graham into chastising the Jewish people.  Mr. Graham later apologized for his unwarranted disparaging comments.
