Yeltsin defended democracy atop tank

Source: Associated Press

April 23, 2007 -- When Boris Yeltsin climbed atop a tank to denounce the attempted coup by Soviet hard-liners in August 1991, he was hailed around the world as a defender of democracy.

He smeared that reputation only 14 months later when he turned tanks on his own political opponents. The accolades ended when he used military force again in 1994 on the secessionist republic of Chechnya.

The man who urged Russians to resist the forces who tried to overthrow Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev showed he was willing to use Soviet-style force to resolve his own crises.

Yeltsin, the former Russian president, died Monday at age 76.

In December 1994, Yeltsin ordered troops into Chechnya, a southern region in the Caucasus Mountains that declared independence shortly after the failed Soviet coup.

Comments:  Another hypocrite kicks the can.  Russian democracy is an oxymoron.  At no time in Russian history have the populace enjoyed democracy like the Greeks had when the power by the people for the people was introduced.  Since that point of time, mankind has little by little chipped away at the people’s power and vested it in the hands of the minority of dictators.  (When you look at the American political system, true democracy doesn’t exist either.  You’re always going to have groups of corrupt politicians out for their own interests and thumbing their noses at the people.)

Boris Yeltsin’s root was Communism.  He ruled Siberia with an iron fist.  Those who dared opposed him were sent to the hinterlands of Siberia never to resurface in public again.  Sure, he helped topple the U.S.S.R. and forced Mikhail Gorbachev to retire to a 1-bed sparsely furnished apartment accorded to all former Soviet presidents.  His major accomplishment was the liberation of all former Soviet Republics, many of them Islamic that defined their own identities.  In essence, Yeltsin was unwittingly used by God to make Russia distinct from the U.S.S.R.  Quite a few Bible prophecy authors such as Dr. Jack Van Impe had written books decades ago about Magog aka Russia (not the U.S.S.R) leading a host of Muslim nations against Israel in the last days.  Yeltsin helped make that happen.

St. Alban's Anglican church holds its last service of celebration

Source: Winnipeg Free Press

April 23, 2007 -- Every note from the pipe organ, every hymn sung by the choir and every word spoken from the pulpit struck a chord as long time parishioners said goodbye to a century-old church last weekend.

With a declining congregation of about 30 regular worshippers, many of them senior citizens, St. Alban's Anglican Church on Rathgar Avenue west of Osborne Street closed its doors on April 15 after a final two-hour service of celebration and farewell that drew parishioners from across the neighbourhood, city and country.

"It was very much loved, this church," says Mary Pallett, an English war bride who began attending St. Alban's after she moved to Riverview in 1950. "We hope that another church will take (the building) over."

"It's an emotional process, an historical moment," says Pallett's son Lance, who was baptized in the church in 1953. "It's an historical moment that has come to an end."

The discussion to close the church in the Lord Roberts neighbourhood began nearly a decade ago when its leadership faced the dual realities of a dwindling congregation in a much too large and expensive building, explains Bruce Cribbs, the rector's warden.

"We're in a building that was built for the 1960s baby boom. We were handicapped by the size of the building and the age of the members," says the Whyte Ridge resident, who spoke words of hope during the final service.

"I think many of us will go and explore worship in other communities and see where we feel most comfortable," explains Rosolowich, a parishioner for the past 33 years. "We'd like to find another St. Alban's but we know there isn't another St. Alban's."

St. Alban's is the third Anglican parish in Winnipeg to close in the past seven years. Christ Church on Corydon shut its doors in 2006 and the property was sold to a local jeweller, and St. Patrick's and St. Jude's on Valour Road was sold to another religious group, leaving 33 parishes in and around the city.

Comments:  2 Timothy 3:[5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  We have said before that the Church is not about a building.  It’s about a body of blood bought believers in Jesus Christ.  When a dead denomination (which the Anglican Church) loses its congregants because it’s no longer relevant, those who remain ought to search their souls and pray to God to find out why.  Because they’ve been blinded by tradition and formalism, they can’t see that God’s Holy Spirit has withdrawn His blessings on them.  They may have a form of godly religion, but there’s no substance, no reality.  The love for Jesus is no longer there.

The people have followed ministers who taught (from the pulpits) them humanism, liberalism, doctrines of demons, and man’s philosophies that tickle the ears of the listeners.  Many, I’m afraid, are not even saved although they attend church faithfully.  If they’re true believers, what are the fruits of their salvation?  Why do they never talk about Jesus or carry their cross daily serving Him?  Instead, it’s all about the Sunday communion, traditions, the church building, the community, etc.  Dead formalism. Religious but lost.  Don’t cry for a church body, but shed copious tears for your lost souls.

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) grads make sweet sounds

Source: Winnipeg Free Press

April 23, 2007 -- So what does the old song Let Me Call You Sweetheart have to do with Sunday's graduation ceremony at Canadian Mennonite University?

Lisa Solnik was one of the first two grads Sunday of CMU's music therapy program, and she discovered to her joy during an on-the-job course practicum that the old crooners' staple had a wonderful effect on two elderly women suffering from dementia.

"A woman started to cry during that song. She chose not to share her memories with the group," but did say that it brought back memories, said Solnik.

Another woman only ever gave one-word responses, she said.

But when Solnik played the familiar song on the piano, "She sang the whole phrase, 'I'm in love with you,'," said Solnik, who explained that music can trigger different neural responses than do spoken words.

Solnik was among 58 students who received bachelor's degrees in arts, music, music therapy and theology, along with five students who earned Masters of Divinity degrees. There were 64 graduates last year, and a record 69 in 2005.

Solnik and Laura Braun were the first grads from music therapy.

A graduate of St. Laurent School who spent two years in the music program at Brandon University, Solnik said the benefits of music therapy are just beginning to be recognized, particularly their effects on people with forms of memory loss.

"There aren't a ton of open positions right now, but there is huge potential. There's an excitement about music therapy and what it can do."

Marvin Marcial laughed that he appeared to be the only Daniel McIntyre Collegiate grad, and possibly the only student of Filipino heritage, at CMU this year.

He came to CMU after deciding a life in banking wasn't for him. Now he's graduating with a degree in music, and hopes to go to the faculty of education at the University of Manitoba to become a school music teacher.

"Definitely, God led me there," said Marcial.

He wanted to put his choir experience to work in a music course. "I was so amazed by my experience at CMU, the community there, the professors.

"I grew up Catholic. I'm definitely a practicing Christian, I go to a lot of churches," Marcial said. "There are tons of different denominations here. For a lot of young people looking to explore their spiritual side, this has a lot of things you can't find at larger universities."

Marcial appeared in plays and an opera on campus, and cherishes being the announcer at basketball games this year.

A graduate of Westgate Collegiate, Aaron Epp was student council president at CMU in his third year.

"I was really involved at Westgate," he said, so he saw serving a year as university student president "kind of giving back to CMU.

"You're trying to be a liaison between students and the institution -- at CMU, the institution is a lot more willing to hear us out. It's a Christian institution, let's work together," said Epp.

"I just put a lot of pressure on myself as a student leader to always have it together. That's silly, because no one always has it together," Epp said. "I saw community as something I give to and don't necessarily take from -- I wasn't fully surrendering to what the community can give to me."

Epp hopes for a career in journalism as an arts and culture reporter. He learned a lot about community at CMU.

Lucas Redekop looked at the universities around his southern Ontario rural home -- Waterloo, Guelph, Laurier -- but he wanted to experience Mennonite theological studies, and have a shot at playing on the varsity hockey and soccer teams.

But, CMU is planning an award next year to graduates who encapsulate CMU's mission of being "moved and transformed by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ to live lives of service, leadership and reconciliation in church and society."

CMU will also introduce a new award for alumni for community service and leadership.

Comments:  Romans 12:[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  Imagine paying tuition to a “Christian” school of higher learning to obtain a music or a journalism degree and not having anyone present the Gospel of God to you?  Four years of intensive studies so self can be prepared for the work world.  The CMU prepares young people to live long prosperous lives here on Earth.  The CMU continues to erect additions to existing universities and construct new campuses.  The flush of abundance amount of money is being used to further the social gospel.  (All denominations that have long term goals with no thought of prophetic events that are just around the corner are in essence being duped by the Devil.)  The social gospel was invented by Devil to divert the believers’ attention from soul saving to building up Nimrod’s world, a rebellious civilization that leaves Jesus out in the cold.  Precious lost souls are being neglected.  They are found in Christian colleges studying humanities and other subjects that will amount to nothing in a coming eternity.

Adherents of dispensationalism cannot comprehend how other worldviews can believe differently than them.  It’s hard to understand how Christians can nonchalantly attend a “Christian” college learning the things of the world, adapting to various denominations, faiths and religions, and exhibiting tolerance toward them.  Their aim of Christianizing this world for Jesus doesn’t jive with the Bible. “Why can’t they see that?”, begs the question.

U.S. had emergency plan for attacking Israel in 1967

Source: www.haaretz.com

April 27, 2007 -- For some time, the United States had had an emergency plan to attack Israel, a plan updated just prior to the 1967 war, aimed at preventing Israel from expanding westward, into Sinai, or eastward, into the West Bank.

In May 1967, one of the U.S. commands was charged with the task of removing the plan from the safe, refreshing it and preparing for an order to go into action.

This unknown aspect of the war was revealed in what was originally a top-secret study conducted by the Institute for Defense Analyses in Washington. The full story is detailed in Haaretz' Independence Day Supplement.

Comments:  America could have attacked Israel.  Are you shocked?  Yes, it can happen.  If Israel ever threatened American security and there was no other way to resolve the issue aside from force, the U.S. would pummel the Israelis.  Why has the U.S. supported Israel so far?  I believe God has mobilized a rather vocal and powerful Jewish lobby group in the U.S. Congress to ensure that Israel’s voice is heard on all matters pertaining to Israel’s interests.  There are anti-Semitic factions out to destroy Israel and eventually America.  It has been God who has held back the flood of evil that would have overrun America.  Even now, the forces of darkness are pushing hard against God’s restraint.

People have questioned America’s support for Israel so far.  Many European nations and Japan know the price of Arab oil would not be this high if Israel didn’t exist.  If the U.N. had its way, it would have supplied Yasser Arafat with all the armaments he needed to push the Jews right into the Mediterranean Sea.  America’s supply of the best military arsenal money can buy has helped Israel fend off her numerous ravenous enemies.  In 1967, Israel had to listen to the U.S. president to back down.  In the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel finally recovered from the surprise Arab attack to turn the tables on her foes, it was the U.S.S.R. that warned the U.S. to rein in Israel or the Soviets would use whatever means (including nuclear) to deal with Israel.  Israel backed down and the world breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Hillary says if elected husband Bill would become "Ambassador to the world"

Source: YAHOO NEWS!

April 27, 2007 -- Hillary says if elected husband Bill would become "Ambassador to the world"

Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday that if she is elected president, she would make her husband a roaming ambassador to the world, using his skills to repair the nation's tattered image abroad.

"I can't think of a better cheerleader for America than Bill Clinton, can you?" the Democratic senator from New York asked a crowd jammed into a junior high school gymnasium. "He has said he would do anything I asked him to do. I would put him to work."

..... When asked what role the former president would play in her administration, she left no doubt it would be an important one.

"I'm very lucky that my husband has been so experienced in all of these areas," said Clinton, who pointed to the diplomatic assignments her husband has carried out since leaving office, such as raising money for tsunami victims.

...That's precisely what America needs in the wake of a war in Iraq that's left America isolated and hated throughout much of the world, Hillary Clinton said.

Comments:  Just great!  A Hillary-Bill vaudeville act that people would pay good money to see.  Bill is too young to ride off into the sunset.  As Henny Youngman used to quip “Take my husband!”  Bill owes Hillary one with her having “stood by her man” during the Monica blue dress fiasco.  If she is elected America’s first female president, she’s going to get Bill to roll up his political sleeves and travel the world to mend fences that President Bush had torn down.  Bill is much revered outside of America.  Whereas the average American doesn’t appreciate what Bill has done for the country, the rest of the world find him charming, charismatic and enlightening.  Are we talking about the same William Jefferson Clinton?

Just think of this possible scenario?  Hillary basking in the limelight of the White House while her hubby Bill is the U.S. Secretary of All States.  Bill would be wining and dining in all the world’s capitals.  Hillary would be calling the shots (she always has).  Bill, do this and that.  Bill, fly to Paris, Tel Aviv and Moscow.  The dude’s Air Miles points would make EU’s Javier Solana envious.  The Clintons just won’t go away!  I don’t think there will be room for the Clintons and the Antichrist in a post-Rapture world.
