Merkel prepares to revive constitution at EU birthday bash
Source: The Times

07 March 2007 – Angela Merkel is attempting to exploit her role as hostess for Europe’s 50th birthday party to give momentum to her project to revive the EU constitution.

As she prepares for the Berlin commemoration of the founding of the Common Market in 1957, the Chancellor of Germany, said that the main tasks facing Europe were the “adjustments we have so far omitted to make” to prepare the EU for the next 50 years.

That was a clear reference to the EU constitution, which was rejected by voters in France and the Netherlands in 2005 but which Mrs Merkel has made her priority to resuscitate.

Despite objections from Britain, France and the Netherlands, she will try to convince European leaders this week to include strong wording on the need for “institutional reform” in the Berlin declaration — an anniversary statement that is intended to celebrate Europe’s achievements.

British diplomats are desperate to keep any reference to the failed constitution out of the declaration, which is due to be published on March 25 after a discussion by EU heads of government at their summit on Thursday. Mrs Merkel wants to set out a timetable by June for publishing a new constitutional treaty.

Comments:  Update; this could be the first critical test for Angela Merkel’s attempt to revive the EU constitution. This summit on Thursday (tomorrow) and Friday will be a day to watch and see how the other EU leaders respond to her initiative. An interesting article yesterday Blair wants EU to take on British foreign affairs, says German ambassador might indicate that Britain is warming up to a revived constitution where Britain has always been cold towards this treaty. The 25th of March will also be a key day when Europe celebrates their 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, signed in 1957. Merkel has 4 months before their 6 month EU presidency expires and persuades the other 27 leaders that the constitution is necessary to move Europe forward. If Merkel fails to achieve a breakthrough, the constitution may be buried for good. I guess we will find out soon.

Poll: If elections held today, Olmert would be thrashed by his rivals
Source: Haaretz

07 March 2007 – If elections were held today, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert would suffer a resounding defeat at the hands of a number of political rivals, according to a Channel 10 poll broadcast Wednesday.

When asked who would be their preferred prime ministerial candidate, 30 percent of those polled said Netanyahu, while 18 percent picked Labor MK Ami Ayalon.

Former prime minister Ehud Barak (Labor) came in third with 12 percent, followed by Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman (7 percent), Olmert (3 percent) and Defense Minister Amir Peretz (1 percent).

According to the poll, 57 percent of Israelis say they want immediate elections, while 72 percent say Olmert should not continue to serve as prime minister.

Kadima MKs have inquired into returning to Likud
Several Kadima MKs have inquired into the possibility of returning to the Likud Party, Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday.

Netanyahu stressed that the Kadima MKs have not approached him directly on the matter, but rather have spoken to other Likud MKs.

The Likud chairman refused to name the Kadima MKs, who left Likud along with former prime minister Ariel Sharon, nor did he reveal how many have expressed an interest in returning to his party.

Comments: with numbers like these, it is only a matter of time before Olmert and company are sent to pack their bags. The war with Hezbollah and Olmerts intentions to give away most of the West Bank has sunk him to the lowest rating he could ever imagine. The bad thing about all this is that Olmert may be prepared to give away most of the West Bank even when his popularity tells him that this would be a historical mistake. An unpopular Olmert could do serious damage to the security of Israel as he tries to be the leader to finally make peace with the Palestinians. On the other hand, to try and boost his popularity he could launch an attack against Iran and gain some points with the public that he lost in the war with Hezbollah. His track record directing the IDF Generals should tell him that this is not in his best interest. In the end, I think the 72% of Israelis are probably right.

Texans fear U.S. sovereignty will disappear down NAFTA Superhighway

Source: www.telegraph.co.uk

March 7, 2007 -- If it were built, the road would be one of the engineering wonders of the 21st century -a trade route a quarter of a mile wide, carving a path from Mexico through the heart of America to Canada.

In its most radical form, it would allow lorry drivers to travel hundreds of miles from the Mexican border deep into the U.S. before reaching customs and immigration controls in Kansas.

Backers of the idea, labeled the "NAFTA Superhighway", after the North American trade pact, say it would revolutionize patterns of commerce across the continent and enhance the economic prospects of millions. But its critics say it could spell the end of U.S. sovereignty. In arguments akin to those deployed by critics of the European Union, opponents say that opening borders will hit businesses, create a terrorist threat and allow illegal immigrants and drugs to flood in.

Comments:  Texans, other Americans and Canadians ought to be very concerned.  (Mexico, being that it’s the poorest of the three amigos, stands to gain most from this highway to hell.)  National sovereignty will definitely be a thing of the past once the NAFTA Superhighway is operational. Just look at the Chunnel that connects England to France and the rest of continental Europe.  The English are now bona fide EU citizens in the truest physical sense.  The British Isles were long deemed to be separate from Europe, but now that divide has been bridged.  The emerging EU superstate endeavors to surpass the U.S. as the world No. 1 economic, political and military power. It believes national sovereignty must be smashed in order to accomplish that goal.  Instead of thinking oneself as Italian, Swiss, Swede or English, one must adopt the EU citizen mindset.

NAFTA has transformed the U.S., Canada and Mexico into a North American free trade region.  This has been the design of the movers and shakers of the One World Government, i.e. to have perhaps 10 global regions (10 kings?) all reporting to a central brain (the Antichrist beast).  We are indeed living in the last days.  Revelation 17:[12] And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

Most Americans are ignorant about religion

Source: MSNBC.com

March 7, 2007 -- Steve Prothero is the kind of professor who makes you want to go back to college. During an hour lecture of his Boston University course "Death and Immortality," 200 students sat rapt last week as his train of thought led him from the Docetics (early Christians who believed that Jesus was all-God, not flesh), to reincarnation, to Disney World, to Hindu cremation rituals, to Plato's account of Socrates' trial (the day's assigned reading), to "Beauty and the Beast," to a hypothetical suicidal bunny, to a discussion of the merits of exile versus death for a man such as Socrates. To describe Prothero as "quick-witted" or his interests as "interdisciplinary" wouldn't quite do him justice. Prothero is a world-religions scholar with the soul of a late-night television comic.

Prothero's new book "Religious Literacy," a work whose message is far more sober than its author's affect. In spite of the fact that more than 90 percent of Americans say they believe in God, only a tiny portion of them knows a thing about religion.

His motivation is more than pedagogical. In a world where nearly every political conflict has a religious underpinning, Prothero writes that Americans are selling themselves short by remaining ignorant about basic religious history and texts, by not knowing the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite or the name of Mormonism's holy book. "Given a political environment where religion is increasingly important, it's increasingly important to know something about religion," he says. "The payoff is a more involved [political] conversation."

Comments:  It’s not about being more knowledgeable about religion that’s really important to a person; it’s about what that person thinks of the Lord Jesus Christ that’s an everlasting life and eternal death matter.  Yes, a person can be religious and pious yet lost and on the fast track to Hell.  Religion has never saved anybody and never will.  If you believe otherwise, then you’ve been duped by the Devil, the creator of other faiths and religions.  Christianity is not a religion but a saving faith in Jesus Christ and living a life that’s pleasing to God in the power of the Holy Spirit.  So many people, including professing Christians, simply don’t get it.

Most Americans say they believe in God and so does the Devil, but the Devil’s fate is the fiery furnace of the Lake of Fire.  Forget about studying other religions.  That is time wasted.  Immerse yourself in God’s Word.  Don’t listen to the Christ rejecters who promote Satan’s agenda of universalism, brother and sisterhood, humans can become gods, and a host of doctrines of demons.  Satan knows the Tribulation Period is just around the corner when he’ll be cast out of Heaven forever.  He’s determined to take as many lost souls with him to the Lake of Fire, souls that have religion, but not Christ.

Israel and the EU talk about upgrading relations

Source: www.jta.org

March 7, 2007 -- The E.U.-Israel Association Council, the ministerial body that monitors E.U.-Israel relations in the framework of the 2000 Association Agreement, held its annual meeting Monday in Brussels. It was attended by Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, E.U. foreign policy chief Javier Solana and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Israel expressed an interest in joining European agencies, including Europol, Eurojust and the new European Environmental agency, as well as participating in E.U. cultural programs. The discussions also focused on the European Neighborhood Policy, a framework designed by the European Commission to strengthen political, trade and human rights agreements between the E.U. and nearby countries, including Israel.

"We are more than willing to explore all possibilities to tighten our relations with the E.U., and we congratulate the decision to create a common team for that purpose," Livni said.

Comments:  Israel’s spiritually blind leaders (Ms. Livni among them) are bent on kowtowing to the Gentiles in their intense desire to be accepted into the European circle of friends.  God had repeated entreated Israel to be separate from the surrounding nations, but would Israel heed His plea?  Time in and time out, Israel had disobeyed God and the result has been Divine chastening.  Once again, Israel is currying the favor of her enemies.  Yes, the EU covertly hates Israel, but loves Israel’s technologies and her immense natural resources including some 10 trillion dollars worth of minerals in the Dead Sea.  These are examples of spoils that envious countries have used in the past as an excuse to invade their neighbors.

Why is the EU so agreeable to bring Israel into its economic fold?  Aside from what I listed above, the EU wants Middle East peace in the worst possible way.  Decades of talks between the Israelis and the Arabs have failed to produce peace.  Israel had complained bitterly that the U.N. and the EU had a pro-Arab stance.  Now, the EU hopes to dispel that notion and Israel seems to have bought into “Let bygones be bygones and kiss and make up”.  Today is the beginning of a new Israeli‑EU relationship.”

Senor Javier Solana is a smooth statesman to have succeeded in charming Ms. Livni and her boss, PM Ehud Olmert, into believing the Europeans have Israel’s best interests at heart.  If the Jews really believe that, then the NY Brooklyn Bridge can be had for a measly $1.  The EU insists that Israel make peace with the Arabs.  It will be peace that will defeat Israel that tanks and rockets could not.  This strategy is starting to sink into the hard craniums of the Europeans and Muslims.  Why aren’t all the international Jewish magnates and billionaires warning their brethren dwelling in Israel of Satan’s devious plot?
