Russia to Iran: No suspension, no fuel
Source: JPost

20 March 2007 – Russia has warned Iran that it will not supply the Islamic country with fuel for its new nuclear reactor unless it agrees to suspend nuclear enrichment as per the UN Security Council's orders, the New York Times reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, American and Iranian officials said Russian National Security Council head Igor Ivanov presented Ali Hosseini Tash, Iran's deputy chief nuclear negotiator, with the ultimatum last week.

Iran and Russia have recently clashed over the fuel supply for the Bushehr power plant at Natantz. Last week, Russia decided to delay the fuel shipment - thus delaying the opening of the nuclear site, as well - claiming that the Iranians were late with the payments.

Teheran flatly denied the Russian claims and accused Russia of bending to international pressure to penalize Iran for its nuclear ambitions.

"We're not sure what mix of commercial and political motives are at play here," the Times quoted a senior Bush administration official as saying. "But clearly the Russians and the Iranians are getting on each other's nerves - and that's not all bad."

Comments: This is the first good news we have seen regarding Iran’s nuclear program and a sign that sanctions are working. Without fuel for the for the Bushehr power plant, Iran has no chance of building a bomb. Russia and Iran are usually on good terms with each other but it looks like their may be a temporary rift in their friendship. This latest move by Russia could also be pressure put on them (Russia) from other members of the Security Council and abide by the sanctions placed on Iran. Either way this will give Israel a bit of breathing room and some time before Russia does deliver the fuel. After the fuel is delivered and the plant gets ready to start up, it will be back to the standoff again. Keep an eye out for Russia ready to deliver that fuel in the future.

EU celebrates its 50th birthday - with a row about religion
Source: Belfast Telegraph

20 March 2007 – Neither God nor Christianity will feature in a 50th birthday declaration for the EU which will highlight European values and list key challenges for the future such as climate change.

Five days before the celebrations for the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, the statement to be issued by EU leaders is being fine-tuned behind closed doors by officials in Germany, which holds the EU presidency.

Across the continent, the 27 EU member states are preparing to host a raft of different events - from tree-planting to skydiving - to mark the anniversary.

Signed on 27 March, 1957, the Treaty created the European Economic Community, the forerunner of the modern-day EU, providing for the establishment of a common market, a customs union and common policies, and proclaiming the objective of "ever closer union". A second agreement created the European Atomic Energy Community, better known as Euratom.

Marking the occasion has proved difficult for the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, who wants a concise declaration acceptable to all 27 EU nations without being bland. She also wants the text to act as a springboard for an agreement on what to do about the European constitution rejected in referendums in France and the Netherlands.

In a rerun of an argument that flared during the drafting of the constitution, Ms Merkel has left out any reference to God or Christianity. That is in deference to secular nations or those that stress the separation of church and state.

Comments: 50 years ago the first full customs union - the European Economic Community (the Common Market) - was established by the Treaty of Rome in 1957 and implemented on 1 January 1958. This later changed to the European Community, which is now the European Union created by the Maastricht treaty. In 1957 there were six member countries that were part of the EEC but today this union has grown to 27 countries with over 450 million people. This 50th birthday is sure to be a big celebration but as this article explains God or Christianity has been left out of any future treaty. Many Christians believe that the European Union is the beast that rises up out of the Mediterranean Sea with seven heads and 10 horns and I would agree with this. The European Union is the world’s largest trading bloc and an economic powerhouse that fits this biblical prediction perfectly. With the 50th year anniversary just a few days away it would almost seem like this beast has already risen from the Sea and is in its final form. The only thing missing is a constitution.

Re 13:1 ¶ And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

EU begins countdown to 50th birthday carnival

Source: EUObserver

March 20, 2007 -- Member states are gearing themselves to varying degrees of festivity this week as the EU approaches its 50th birthday, with projects ranging from a Franco-German love film to prayers for the bloc.

With Germany currently running the EU, Berlin will be putting on the biggest show to mark the half century anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome planning a big cultural programme including all night openings of some of the city's famous museums.

At the city's clubs, meanwhile, people will be able to dance on the occasion of the EU's birthday with 27 venues throwing an all-night rave from Saturday to the early hours of Sunday morning.

EU leaders, also in Berlin for the birthday celebrations, will hear Beethoven's 5th Symphony by the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra.

They will then have a banquet on the Saturday evening set to be overloaded at the dessert end of the meal when 54 birthday cakes will be on display - two traditional cakes from each member state, including sheep's cheese strudel from Bulgaria, Ireland's "Auntie Florence's Orange Cake" and waffles from Belgium.

Rome will be host to a youth summit. A gathering of 200 young people, who plan to hold their own European Council to mirror the one in Berlin, but are likely to indulge in less bickering in the run up to the summit on what the state of the union is.

Brussels, as the capital of the EU, will gather jazz musicians from around Europe to play all day on Sunday while for the night before it seems to have organised a line-up of Europe's best ageing stars for a "memorable pop music concert." Among those playing include Nana Mouskouri, Kim Wilde and The Scorpions.

In Luxembourg, there will be an 8km "European walk" while in Ireland and the Netherlands church services will mark the Treaty of Rome.

Slovakia is to plant trees to celebrate the EU; in Slovenia people will jump out of planes using parachutes with EU symbols and in Spain's Madrid a giant puzzle of Europe will be built.

Comments:  The number 50 is considered golden, so will the golden sun shine on the EU like San Francisco’s sun did on crooner Tony Bennett?    The Club of Rome of 1957 produced this monstrosity called the Revived Roman Empire that will eventually devour the entire earth.  The Old Roman Empire didn’t fall because of invaders from outside, but from internal moral decay.  The revived empire will try not to make that same mistake.  Its leader, the Antichrist, like the Caesars of old, will be an autocratic iron-fist dictator.  He will be a no-nonsense despot worse than baddies in history such as Caesar Nero, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Adolph Hitler, Saddam Hussein…  He’ll bring together the loose conglomerate of EU nations after he’s been chosen to be their decisive leader.  He’ll forge a seemingly impossible Middle East peace accord between Israel, the Arabs and the entire world.  All opposition to his absolute rule will be met with force.  He’ll make war with all dissenters and round up Christians by the millions and have them beheaded.

With the above future events in mind, this 50th birthday celebration ought to be somber event, yet the EU citizens, in their exuberance, have no inkling of what’s on the immediate horizon.  They say that “life begins at 50”.  For the EU, 50 and beyond will herald in a brave new world indeed, a world of 24/7/366 monitoring, hi-tech control, mass murders like the killing fields of Cambodia, loss of all individual freedoms, mind control by Satan’s man of sin, the Antichrist.  EU citizens, enjoy your birthday cake now for tomorrow, your heads may roll into the basket from the drop of the guillotine.  The Antichrist will be a Marie Antoinette copycat.

What are universities for?

Source: Jerusalem Post

March 20, 2007 -- If there is one event that sums up all that is wrong with American university life, it is spring break, which was celebrated last week. I was lecturing in Miami Beach, where I grew up, and was walking on the city's famed boardwalk. Thousands of young college students - all in their late teens and early 20s - were lounging on the sand.

It was a sobering sight. The female students' beach attire was close to non-existent. Time was when the bikini was considered revealing. Today it is only for prudes and the modestly attired. These young women were already perfecting their role as eye candy for men. Is this what they were learning in college?

Western educational life revolves around getting into a good college. But the time has come for a fundamental reevaluation of whether our children progress or regress at university. The simple fact is that the American campus is not a very healthy place and belies its description as a place of "higher" education.

Before parents send their kids off to college they should travel to a nearby campus and witness its shenanigans for themselves. That's what the celebrated novelist Tom Wolfe did for his 2004 novel, I Am Charlotte Simmons.

Readers of the book would scarcely believe the description of the American campus as a giant orgy filled with misogynistic men who harbor indescribable contempt for women and arrive on campus with the stated intention of bedding as many as possible. Less so would they believe the complicity with which women have joined in their own degradation.

Most of us believe that sending our daughters off to college will safeguard their future and increase their self-esteem as they walk away with a respected degree. In fact, for a great many young women the campus environment serves to foster permanent anxiety as to their looks and a concern that rejecting the prevailing sexual availability will label them as unpopular prudes.

But we are beginning to see this happen with women on campus, as the DePauw example makes clear. Few women in society are as self-conscious about their looks as coeds on campus, which undermines the whole notion of being appreciated for their minds rather than their bodies.

Not that the universities are succeeding in educating students anyway. I run a small office of employees and regularly interview candidates right out of college. A great many with degrees cannot spell, have scant knowledge of punctuation and grammar, and are utterly ignorant of history and world affairs.

At UC Berkeley, freshman who took a national test focusing on history and general knowledge scored on average 60 percent. Seniors, incredibly, averaged only 55 percent, earning the storied university a negative learning rank (Oakland Tribune).

Fifteen other Universities, including Johns Hopkins, also earned negative learning ranks. Incredible, to actually become dumber after four years of college. Another study by the National Association of Scholars found that today's college students are barely more knowledgeable than high school students were 50 years ago.

Comments:  A brother in the Lord once told a young people’s meeting that colleges and universities were the training grounds of the Devil.  Impressible young people don’t know what they’re getting themselves into and four years later, they’re fully ingrained in the world’s ways of thinking and acting.

Author David Wheaton, a Stanford grad and a former tennis pro, wrote a book titled, “The University of Destruction” (U of D) and its four pillars; sex, drugs, rock and roll, and humanism, which effectively indoctrinate its graduates to a lifestyle that perpetuates a worldly viewpoint rather than a Christian viewpoint.  Parents (some knowingly) save thousands of dollars to send their children into the Devil’s lairs where lasciviousness defines the norm.  Campus life is all about self gratification.  Getting an education means being under the tutelage of liberal humanistic professors who eschew Darwinism and mocks traditional Christianity.  Even so called Christian institutions of higher learning aren’t immune to the liberal onslaught.  Promiscuity (sex, drugs, rock and roll dribble) is a tool the Devil uses to sear the consciences of young people.  Multiple sex partners (hetero and homosexual) run the gamut.  Booze flows as freely as water over a breached levee.  Wild mind altering drug orgies run from night well into the morning.

Getting an education is a sideline to the actual partying and debauchery.  Graduates of the U of D get their wild oats sown and then they think they’re ready for corporate America.  The Devil fives them all an “A”.  1 John 2:[16] For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  . Luke 4:[6] And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it; [7] If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.  [8] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Livni. Not what we thought (favored over Bibi to replace Olmert)

By Akiva Eldar of www.haaretz.com

March 20, 2007 -- According to all the polls, Tzipi Livni could have begun her speech at the Kadima meeting last Thursday with the following words: "I am a popular deputy prime minister and foreign minister." Livni is the preferred candidate to replace Prime Minister Ehud Olmert after the Winograd Committee report on last summer's war in Lebanon is publicized - thanks to the widespread public belief that she had nothing to do with the failures of the recent Lebanon war.

Livni's supporters also include quite a few centrists and moderate leftists, who see her as a realistic diplomat, a decent politician and a compassionate woman.

But the comments the foreign minister has been making recently should earn her a little credit from right-wing circles. "Her work," as her boss Olmert says, is reminiscent of that of a weather forecaster. The No. 1 female diplomat in Israel spends her time forecasting rainy days and talking about how to prepare for them. In the time she has left, she finds holes in Arab diplomatic initiatives and attempts to fill them with fruitless ideas.

.... she said in a recent speech in Washington that the dispute over the territories and Jerusalem is a marginal matter, and that pragmatic Arab leaders have informed her that the key problem in the region is the conflict between extremists and moderates.

Comments:  Where have all the great leaders gone?  David Ben Gurion, Golda Meir, Menachem Begin…  Blowing in the wind?  Actually, they’ve been reduced to dust and ashes.  Good leaders are hard to find and great leaders are like gold bullions in a time of hyperinflation, precious.  Israel faces her toughest times since her rebirth on May 14, 1948 and she has to choose among a group of political retreads such as Shimon Peres and Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu.  Or she could select only the second ever women in modern times to lead the nation.  Ms. Livni lacks military experience and but so does the incumbent Ehud Olmert who made costly mistakes in last summer’s Israel-Hezbollah war.  She is a relatively newcomer to the Knesset and that could be viewed as negative or positive.  Negative in that she’s not that politically savvy as she responds to constant attacks on her ministerial role and positive in that she brings some much needed fresh air to an essentially Old Boy’s Club covertly disguised as the Israeli Knesset.

What do the Arabs think of her?  Being that she’s young and attractive, they may view her as an easy victim to prey upon should she replace the ever smiling Olmert.  Just because she’s a female and compassionate (i.e. peace maker) to boot doesn’t mean she can’t kick some derrieres if needed.  She could lull the Arabs into a sense of complacency leading to Israel winning the next war.  With the Tribulation Period so agonizingly close at hand, perhaps God will allow a new Israeli leader to take over governing the nation at the same time the Antichrist brings his miraculous peace proposals to the negotiating table.  Surely, a left‑wing/centralist Israeli prime minister would be more than receptive to peace accords than a Likud Party warbird.
