Mideast quartet may be at turning point -envoy
Source: Reuters

31 January 2007 – Friday's quartet meeting of Middle East mediators is its most important ever with world powers expected to endorse U.S. initiatives to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, a veteran Middle East negotiator said on Wednesday.

"For the first time in years there is a very serious U.S. initiative to address the overall political issues, basically readdressing everything which is addressed in the road map," Terje Roed-Larsen, a Middle East expert said in an interview.

The quartet -- the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia -- meet in Washington on Friday. In 2003 they drew up the "road map," a blueprint for simultaneous actions by Israel and the Palestinians leading to two states living side by side by 2005.

Roed-Larsen, who has been involved in Middle East mediation since he helped organize the 1993 Israeli-Palestinian Oslo accords, insisted the time was ripe for movement despite the deep split between the Hamas and Fatah Palestinian groups.

"There is a new positive and constructive U.S. initiative under way and I do believe that the quartet will swing its muscle behind the U.S. initiatives, namely to address all issues and to reassess all issues," said Roed-Larsen, now head of the International Peace Academy think tank, said:

Comments:  Friday will be an interesting day to see if anything comes out of this meeting. All the issues will be on the table and like Mr. Larsen has suggested, this meeting is the most important ever. Javier Solana has also suggested that movement in the peace process was in the works. Everything that deals with the roadmap will be discussed and this would include the status of Jerusalem. As these leaders and world powers gather in Washington, all eyes will be on this meeting to see what transpires. If there is any movement it could very well be the most important quartet meeting ever. Keep an eye on this one Friday!

Laying Claim to Jerusalem

Source: CBN

31 January 2007 – For thousands of years, empires, countries and kings have fought over the fate of Jerusalem. Today, the fight for Jerusalem continues, and the final claim on its destiny will have worldwide consequences.

Since the 1967 Six-Day War, the city of Jerusalem has been under the sovereignty of the state of Israel. And just four months from now, Israel will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its capture of the city of Jerusalem.

But one generation later, Jerusalem is still the epicenter of conflict: Israel's enemies are trying to advance their jihadist plan to take back Jerusalem and Israel for Islam.

Whether it's Hamas within Palestinian territories, Hezbollah on Israel's northern border or Iran's mullahs and their genocidal plans, many Islamic groups are striving to take back the city of Jerusalem and make it the capital of a worldwide Islamic empire.

Recent history, like the 2000 Israeli withdrawal from South Lebanon and the 2005 Israeli withdrawal from Gaza only fueled Islamic fervor, not diminished it. Gold states that a re-division of Jerusalem would not only endanger its holy sites, but also unleash new jihadist momentum on a scale that most political leaders have not begun to consider. The stakes in this fight are enormous because he believes that no city is more important to the peace of the world than Jerusalem.

Comments:
Yes, Jerusalem will be a burden to the entire world in the last days and the final battle for the city may be about to begin with this quartet meeting in Washington. There is no other city in the world that has been fought over more often than the city of Jerusalem. The roadmap that these leaders are trying to repair broke down the last time over the status of Jerusalem but this time they are bound and determined to fix the problem. With Jerusalem coming back into the spotlight you can be sure that this will light a spark that will “unleash new jihadist momentum on a scale that most political leaders have not begun to consider”. The consequences of meddling with Jerusalem will affect the whole planet and whether they know it or not, the beginning of the burden may be about to start on Friday. The leaders are going for the “End Game” and that game includes Jerusalm.

Zec 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Iranian reveals plan to expand role in Iraq

Source: NY Times

January 31, 2007 -- Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad outlined an ambitious plan on Sunday to greatly expand its economic and military ties with Iraq — including an Iranian national bank branch in the heart of the capital — just as the Bush administration has been warning the Iranians to stop meddling in Iraqi affairs.

Iran’s plan, as outlined by the ambassador, carries the potential to bring Iran into further conflict here with the United States, which has detained a number of Iranian operatives in recent weeks and says it has proof of Iranian complicity in attacks on American and Iraqi forces.

The ambassador, Hassan Kazemi Qumi, said Iran was prepared to offer Iraq government forces training, equipment and advisers for what he called “the security fight.” In the economic area, Mr. Qumi said, Iran was ready to assume major responsibility for Iraq reconstruction, an area of failure on American and Iraqi forces.

Comments:  Iran is not only an immediate neighbor to Iraq, but part of Iraq and modern day Iran used to comprise the ancient mighty Persian Empire.  In fact, until the 1930s, Iran was called Persia.  (Persians are not Arabs per se.  Whereas their supreme leader adheres to Islam’s Prophet Mohammed and their god Allah, many Arabs (such as Saddam Hussein) including Iraqis are nominal Muslims.)  Iran’s eyeing part of Iraq, therefore should not come as a shock to those in the region.  Even the Baker‑Hamilton Report suggested a partition of Iraq into separate portions.  Iran supports that concept.  Unification is simply a natural desire of any two nations that were once one whole entity.

What rankles the Americans and the Israelis is that Iran has imperialistic plans to expand its territories and its influence in the Persian Gulf and Middle East regions.  That’s alarming for sure.  Iran is Israel’s greatest fear and unless it’s controlled, Iran will flex its military muscle soon to take on Israel in a regional war (see Ezekiel 38 and 39).  Who will have the courage to take on Iran soon before Iran is too powerful to be nullified by one or two nukes?  Time is not on the side of the U.S. and Israel.

Aussie man sells own self on the Internet

Source: YAHOO NEWS!

January 31, 2007 -- A 24-year-old Australian surfer who sold his life, including baggage from a painful break-up, on eBay says he is still not quite sure why he did it.

Nicael Holt sold his name, phone number and all his possessions, including clothes, CDs, a surfboard, a laptop, a wonky pushbike, childhood photos and a "nice lamp" given to him by an ex-girlfriend, on the internet auction site.

The successful applicant bid 7,500 dollars (5,790 US) last week to become Holt, right down to spending Christmas with his parents and inheriting "some tension with a former ex from a painful break-up."

The identity of the eBay auction winner is known only as ridderstrade.

Holt, a philosophy student from the southern coastal city of Wollongong who has set up a website to explain his actions and ask for donations to charity, said he was unable to explain why he sold his life.

"I'm still racking my brain to come up with the answer or any answer as to why I did this?" he wrote.

Motivating factors were boredom and intrigue as to what constitutes a life and what made him who he was.

He added he was "hoping to make a point that the amount and type of things that are for sale in this world is insane and wasteful."

Comments:  In a day and age when self is paramount, it’s not that surprising then that a person would sell his own self on the Internet for a bag of cash.  We prostitute ourselves at the workplace each day when we sell our services to corporations that market, sell and distribute booze, promote state gambling, support the homosexual agenda, and uphold the right of women to kill the unborn.  We may have jobs at the local liquor mart, state lotteries, race tracks, restaurants that push hard liquor, sleazy politicians’ offices, etc.  Unless we work for a religious firm (and not all Christians can do that) that prints and distributes Gospel tracts and related literature, we really can’t be 100% furthering the Lord’s work.  Even football players who comprised the largest number of born again believers can’t really say they could cash their hefty paychecks with a clear conscience since beer companies pay a large chuck of their wages.

Back to this news story… Nicael Holt essentially sold more than his body, he sold his soul to the Devil to alleviate his boring life.  Life is pretty much ho hum for the vast majority of humanoids on planet Earth.  How can it not be?  What’s life anyway, but a mundane existence?  We practically do the same things each day. Sleep, eat, work, eat, drink and play, and the cycle replicates itself over and over again like the repeat feature on your CD player.  Life is like a carousel. The unsaved sole’s purpose is to gratify self and be happy.  There’s no real lasting happiness outside of Christ so the Devil provides the soul distractions called entertainment.  Distractions to cloudy up a person’s mind so that he/she doesn’t think about what comes after death and the grave.  The carnival’s clown is really the Devil mocking the lost and perishing masses.

Hymns replaced by U2’s Bono lyrics at Church of England

Source: telegraph.co.uk

January 31, 2007 -- John Lennon once enraged Christians by claiming that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. The Church of England is now recognising the pulling power of rock stars by recruiting Bono, the singer and lyricist of U2, in its bid to boost congregations.

A Church of England bishop is to preside at this country's first "U2-charist", an adapted Holy Communion service that uses the Irish supergroup's best-selling songs in place of hymns.

In what is more rock concert than Book of Common Prayer, a live band will belt out U2 classics such as Mysterious Ways and Beautiful Day as worshippers sing along with the lyrics, which will appear on screens. The atmosphere will be further enhanced by a sophisticated lighting system that will pulse with the beat, and striking visual images of poverty and drought.

Comments:  Bono’s humanistic narcissist lyrics would have never been sang by the late George Beverly Shea who belted out soul stirring Christ centered hymns that prepared teary eye souls for Billy Graham’s gospel message that followed.  The Church of England is banking on Bono’s popularity with the younger generation to lure them back to church.  Like many in today’s seeker sensitive felt needs movement, use any method short of breaking the law to get people into religious edifices.  The methods of the world, e.g. Peter Drucker, have a proven track record.  Just get them in and then somehow tailor the message from the pulpit to fascinate them and keep them coming back for more.  People have low self-esteem so give them uplifting messages.  If they suffer from a sin complex, then reassure them that sins are just mere human mistakes and God’s not mad at you.  God is a loving God and he won’t hold your mistakes and errors in judgment for an eternity.  Social injustice issues are always a hit with the youngins.

Christian rock is a misnomer of course.  How can professing believers in Christ use the rhythmic beats used in African dances and rituals to worship Jesus?  Plus many rock songs were composed by people under the influence of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, etc.  Rock is more aptly suited to satanic ceremonies from which they were derived.  Christians today lack spiritual discernment and don’t even pray to God/Jesus to lead them into the right paths.  Man’s pride knows more than God and man’s ways of pleasing God inherently employ the world’s methods.  The Church of England long ago lost God’s favor and now, left to its own devices, is grasping at straws to arrest its evitable death.  Those who do attend this church to hear Bono’s music will do so devoid of any spiritual discovery and their fate will be sealed.
