Peretz urges Israel to avoid verbal escalation with Syria
Source: Haaretz
22
February 2007 –
Responding to a Haaretz report that
Syria is boosting its army and moving troops closer to its border with Israel,
Defense Minister Amir Peretz said Thursday that Israel should refrain from
making further statements regarding Syria, and urged officials to avoid a verbal
escalation of tensions.
Speaking at his weekly meeting with Defense Ministry
officials, Peretz said that the situation would be assessed based on concrete
information, and that the army would prepare itself as necessary.
…
The Syrian armed forces are being
strengthened in an unprecedented way in recent memory with the help of generous
funding from Iran and its troops appear to be moving closer to the border with
Israel.
The Syrians are bolstering their forces in all areas except
the air force, which has been believed to be weak for some time. The main
emphasis of the efforts has been missiles and long-range rockets to compensate
for the weak air force.
The Syrian navy, after years of neglect, is also being
reinforced with an Iranian version of a Chinese anti-ship missile, similar to
the one used by Hezbollah during the second Lebanon war to strike the Israeli
destroyer INS Hanit.
In addition to the overall strengthening of the armed forces
in Syria, there has been a redeployment of forces along the front lines. It
appears that the Syrians have moved forces closer to the border with Israel on
the Golan Heights.
Comments: You can see that Syria is gearing for a possible war with Israel and at the same time… (Article) Israel stages Golan war games (from article) Israel was on Wednesday conducting its most important war games in five years on the Golan Heights, the strategic plateau seized from Syria 40 years ago, defence minister Amir Peretz said. "Conducting these exercises in this area does not at all mean that they are connected to a possible conflict," Peretz told public radio.
Interesting words in the first article from Amir Peretz, obviously he knows what the situation is in the Golan with Syria and Israel wouldn’t be conducting the most important war games in 5 years if something wasn’t brewing. So, at the same time that Syria is boosting its army and moving closer to the border, Israel is staging war games in the same location. Any war with Iran will bring Syria into the battle. Keep in mind that Bashar Assad was just in Iran (article) Iran and Syria Reject US Threats, Report: Syria Boosting Forces With Iran, Russia Help and any war with Iran will bring Syria into the battle. Now that Iran has once again defied the UN, Iran defies UN demand to halt enrichment: report, the sabers will be rattling all over the Middle East. The burden of Damascus is coming.
Isa 17:1 ¶ The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
Oil States Plan Weapons Buying Binge
Source: Military.com
22 February 2007 – Deep fears about the war in Iraq and growing tension between the United States and Iran are driving the wealthy oil states of the Persian Gulf to go on shopping sprees for helicopters, ships and tanks, officials say.
Some 900 weapons makers and security firms from around the world, including the U.S. and Russia, will compete for those military buys at the IDEX military show that opens Sunday in Abu Dhabi. At stake are contracts predicted to soar past the $2 billion signed at the last such show two years ago.
"The shopping lists are directly correlated to the threat perception," said military analyst Mustafa Alani of the Dubai-based Gulf Research Center. "For the past 15 years, these countries didn't invest a lot in rearming."
But now they're rushing to upgrade.
The biggest fear in the region is that Iraq will collapse into civil war and its violence will spill into nearby Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, Alani said.
Those countries want to protect critical sites such as oil installations, ports
-- and U.S. military bases that house tens of thousands of American troops. Of
those five nations, only Saudi Arabia has no American bases.
Comments: All these rich oil countries remember how easily Iraq took control of Kuwait and now they are getting prepared just in case. With all this money floating around they can afford all the high tech gear required to protect their oil reserves. Why would they need to protect their oil installations with all these U.S. military bases and tens of thousands of American troops doing it for them? If you read the last reports you would know that these troops may not be there for much longer. Without the U.S. and British troops, the wealthy oil states will have to protect their own assets and this is why they are on a buying binge. There are deep fears of war and there is no mistake that the writing is in the sand…Oil.

Arab ministers interested in relations with Israel
Source: Ynet
Comments: This may not seem like big news but here is what I think; Hamas and Fatah met in Saudi Arabia where they came to an agreement to build a unity government. The most important aspect that was missing with this new partnership was recognition of Israel. This has been the stumbling block of the peace process. Now, 7 Arab countries are ready to normalize relations and recognize Israel. This is a message to Hamas and the Palestinians that now is the time for you to do it too. Yes, I think this is big news.22 February 2007 – Arab ministers interested in relations with Israel

Russian Jewish billionaire immigrant eyes Israeli politics
Source: CanWest News Service
February 22, 2007 -- A Russian-Israeli billionaire is establishing a new party in Tel Aviv to challenge the country's political establishment in the next election.
Arkady Gaydamak's new faction, which will be called Social Justice, would not involve itself in security issues like other Israeli parties, but would eventually merge with former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party.
"(Prime Minister Ehud) Olmert is a professional politician and he should definitely be concerned about a man shown in opinion polls to be popular among the Israeli electorate," Gaydamak said Wednesday.
As Israel's beleaguered prime minister gave his annual news conference for foreign journalists, Gaydamak referred to polls which showed his support among Israel's large Russian minority was such that his new party could win between 14 and 25 seats in the next election.
Olmert's personal popularity with the electorate is in single digits and his Kadima party would only win 11 seats if an election were held today, polls say.
Olmert vehemently denied suggestions from within his own government Hezbollah might be stronger now than it was before last summer's 34-day war with Israel.
"I think Hezbollah is much, much weaker," Olmert said. One of the reasons cited was the presence of more than 20,000 Lebanese and UN troops in southern Lebanon who had made "life intolerable for Hamas" since the war ended.
"I am not certain that they have any appetite to fight with Israel again," he said.
Although Iran's nuclear ambitions is a major issue internationally, it was only touched on briefly at the news conference. "I don't think Iran is as close to the technical threshold as it claims to be," Olmert said. He added, however, Iran was much further along in its attempts to make nuclear weapons than Israel wanted them to be.
Comments: I know that God had foretold us that in the last days, He would gather His people, the Jews, from the far north (Russia) and from all nations that He had scattered them and bring them back to His land, Israel. The millions of Russian Jews are a testament to His fulfilled promise.
Arkady Gaydamak is a billionaire who made his fortune in the “new” corrupt Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. He’s got the money and the clout to create his own political party and win lots of Russian Jews’ votes. He knows it and others will jump onto his populist bandwagon. But, will the established right-wing Likud Party buy into Gaydamak’s vision of social justice which appears to be an agenda the left-wing Labor Party would espouse. More importantly, would the nationalistic Netanyahu be swayed to compromise his long held conservative ideology in favor of this socialistic issue just for the sake of assuming power once again albeit another coalition government? Like Howie Mandel would ask the TV contestant, “Deal or no deal?!”
I am worried that with so many Russian Jews now living and influencing political, social and financial decisions within Israel that a Trojan Horse might have been introduced, a stealth horse that has hidden inside its underbelly an insidious plot by Russia not only to infiltrate Israel’s government, but eventually control it. The end result might be the hooks in the jaw that will draw the Russian bear down south to Israel to take a spoil and conquer the tiny country by force. If that will be the case, it certainly won’t be, “From Russia with love.”

Latin America’s Protestants build bridges with Pentecostals
Source: ekklesia.co.uk
February 22, 2007 -- The main Protestant grouping of churches in Latin America, which for years was seen as a religious embodiment of left-wing politics, began its six-yearly gathering in a Pentecostal church in Buenos Aires with a lively worship service - writes Peter Kenny for Ecumenical News International (ENI).
Several delegates noted how the Latin American church council has in recent years moved closer to the mushrooming Pentecostal and Evangelical churches which are outstripping the traditional Protestant and Roman Catholics churches in membership growth.
The immediate past president of CLAI, the Rev Walter Altmann, a theologian from the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brazil, who is now moderator of the WCC central committee, commented on how the engine for church unity in the region, ecumenism, is changing.
Comments: It seems that ecumenism is the “in” thing these days as evidenced by the many Christian denominations seeking dialogue and union with polar opposite denominations. In this particular article, what commonality would Pentecostals possibly have with mainline Protestants other than their common Protestant roots? The mainliners hold staid “don’t disturb the sleeping church mice” formalistic dead services while the Pentecostals require seat belts to hold them down to their pews. Pentecostals speak in tongues and their charismatic spirit would make the mainliners blush.
We perceive that Satan is the mover and shaker behind the ecumenism movement. It’s predicted in the Bible and Satan knows his Bible inside out and the undeniable fact that God’s Word must come to past as foretold. That being said, Satan is working tireless behind the scene directing his religious but lost minions to bring about Church unity. The end result will be the coming together of all Catholic and Protestant denominations and eventually include all faiths and religions of the world. Satan is wise enough to know that you can’t affect a political takeover of the world unless you first have religious unity. His aim is the worship of his appointed Antichrist and himself. His right hand man, the False Prophet, will soon appear on the scene to consummate the final stages of the One World Church. Step by step, we’re seeing an acceleration of Satan’s efforts to achieve his ultimate goal, i.e. usurp the rightful worship that belongs solely to God’s Son, Jesus. The battle between the unholy trinity (Satan, Antichrist and False Prophet) and the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) will begin soon after the Rapture event.

Bill Gates keeps close eye on daughter’s computer time
Source: Reuters
February 22, 2007—Bill Gates said his 10-year-old daughter, his oldest child, was not a hard-core Internet and computer user until this year, when she started at a school where the students use tablet computers for almost everything.
"She became very avid and discovered a lot of computer games, including one that runs on the Xbox 360 called Viva Pinata, where you take care of your garden," he told a business audience in Ottawa.
"She could spend two or three hours a day on this Viva Pinata, because it's kind of engaging and fun."
Gates said he and his wife Melinda decided to set a limit of 45 minutes a day of total screen time for games and an hour a day on weekends, plus what time she needs for homework.
Comments: Bill Gates didn’t invent the personal computer (PC), but he did create the operating systems such as DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP and now, Windows Vista. With each upgrade comes more snazzier and breathtaking features. Third party software and gaming companies are quick to pounce on the new operating system by releasing their creations. The Internet exploded ever since the cost of PCs came down to an affordable price and Gates’ Internet Explorer ousted Netscape as the preferred web browser.
Gates knows how addictive web surfing can be. He did a lot of research on it and his company profited by it to the tune of billions of dollars. Like most addictions, the addicts get hooked and their lives are adversely changed. Now, Gates and his wife have to keep a close tab on their own daughter. She could rebel by saying, “Dad, you’re a hypocrite. You had a large part in making the Internet to be addictive and now, you’re telling me to cut the hours? Why don’t you practise what you preach?” Yes, Bill, listen to your kid here.
What will the future hold? Bill Gates and Ted Turner, both communications moguls, have been doing what their globalist masters have been commanding them to do, i.e. get Earth’s citizens hooked up to the Internet so they can conduct business, take care of their health, education and social needs. We’re creating a One World Government which mandates that every person be assigned a mark, an e-mail address and live hook-ups to the Internet where we can web cam into their homes to control, monitor and police their every activity.
