Peres looks to peace with Palestinians
Source: The Peninsula
01 February 2007 – Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres yesterday said that his is a country which wants peace and stated that he will devote the rest of his life to bringing peace.
In fact, the Nobel Laureate and two-time former prime minister of Israel may well have come here with doves in hand. Peres last visited the region 10 years ago. His return marks the first time a high-ranking Israeli leader has made a visit to the GCC with no calls in between.
Peres yesterday engaged in a lively session of a ‘Doha Debates Special’ held at the Qatar Foundation with Tim Sebastian moderating. The programme will be aired on BBC World on February 3 and 4. He stated that Israel was bent on peace and best understood the Palestinian personality. “Israel dismantled the (Jewish) settlements in Gaza completely and the army left Gaza completely. For the fisrt time in history, Israel had used force to dismantle the settlements,” said Peres.
The Jewish state, he said, has always been provoked into fights and added Israel never initiated conflicts but has always reacted
…
Harping on the issue of peace, Peres said: “Peace is the basic desire of Israelis.” Looking at the young audience, he told them: “I don’t look at you as an enemy. Don’t look at me as an enemy.”
The contentious issue of the wall
between the West Bank and Israel was called “temporary”.
Said Peres:“We were forced to do it. Since we built the wall, attacks came down
by 80 per cent. Once
there is peace, who needs walls?”
He noted that there was no wall along the Jordanian border, nor were there
minefields. “Why? They do not penetrate us,” he said. There is still hope of
peace with the Palestinians provided they are willing to sit and negotiate and
peace will be at hand in a relatively short time. “Negotiate with us. We cannot
change our neighbours or friends,” he said.
Comments: It is just this sort of peace that Peres is talking about that will lull Israel into a sense of security when peace comes. When it comes, it will eventually lead Israel to dismantle the wall around the green line. This is exactly what the prophet Ezekiel said would take place prior to the Gog (Russia) invasion of the Middle East and the primary target will be Israel. This is another reason why this future peace plan will be a false peace for Israel because they will think that they are at peace with their enemies but their enemies will be plotting their destruction while they are at rest. The leadership in Israel (like Peres and Olmert) are bound and determined to make peace with the Arabs and will stop at nothing to finish the job that Rabin, Barak, and Sharon were not able to do. The problem now is, the international community is just as determined as the Israeli leadership to achieve peace and this will lead Israel to make dangerous mistakes and tearing down the wall may be one of those grave mistakes.
Eze 38:11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
Eze 38:18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.
UN chief calls for substantial action in Quartet meeting
Source: People’s Daily
01 February 2007 – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon expected to see substantial results in the upcoming Quartet meeting on the Middle East, UN spokesperson Michele Montas said on Thursday.
Montas told reporters at the daily briefing that Ban hopes that the Quartet will seriously engage with the key issues that have a direct impact on the situation on the ground, going beyond mere statements.
"He is fully aware that, within the region and beyond, many are looking at the Quartet to be more energetic in its efforts than it has been at times to break the current impasse in the peace process," she said.
Montas added that Ban believes the Quartet should reach out to the parties and also other key regional partners for a more systematic dialogue, and involvement in the Quartet's deliberations.
The Quartet, which has been championing the so-called Road Map plan aimed at securing a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace, has not met formally since September.
Ban, on behalf of the United Nations, will be participating on Friday in his first meeting of the so-called diplomatic Quartet in Washington with top officials of the other three partners including the United States, Russia, and the European Union (EU).
Among the participants are US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and European Union ( EU) High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, representing the EU Presidency.
Comments: update; tomorrow (today) is the big day for the first meeting of the quartet and all the important world leaders will be there to decide how the roadmap will proceed. This is a highly anticipated meeting and these leaders expect that they can start the roadmap up again and lead the two side’s right to the end of that road (map) in a short period of time. Instead of speculating what the outcome will be, let’s see what the news has to say tomorrow and see what they come up with then. The fate of Israel hangs in the balance and what they decide tomorrow may have repercussion that will affect the Jews for years to come.

February 1, 2007 -- Ray and Louise Spiering wanted to observe a period of silence after their daughter Melynda’s birth, but what they got was an uproar.
To the Spierings, Nebraska’s requirement that newborn babies undergo blood screening within 48 hours of birth is an infringement on their religious beliefs and their right to decide what’s best for their four children.
The couple attend a fundamental Christian church and follow some teachings of the Church of Scientology. Louise Spiering said they wanted “that balance of our beliefs included into the births of our children.”
The mandatory test, in which a few drops of blood are drawn from a baby’s heel, screens for dozens of rare congenital diseases, some of which can cause severe mental retardation or death if left undetected.
Nebraska is one of four states — along with South Dakota, Michigan and Montana — that don’t let parents opt out of the testing.
The Spierings wanted to avoid loud noises after Melynda’s birth, and also reduce the pain she experienced in order to protect her physical and mental health. The concept comes from the Church of Scientology — minimizing talking around someone who is in pain, said the Rev. Brian Fesler of Minneapolis, a regional representative for the church.
Comments: I agree with Christian radio hostess Jan Markell that spiritual deception is the greatest sign pointing to Jesus’s soon return to Earth. We see and hear about it everywhere these days. In this news article, what struck me wasn’t Nebraska’s state law that requires newborns to be tested, but that “fundamental” Christian parents defended their opposition to the “law of the land” by taking a concept that originated from the Church of Scientology. How can otherwise scripturally sound believers take any concept from a cult for that is what the Church of Scientology is? Just because Tom Cruise is that church’s leading spokesperson doesn’t mean the Church of Scientology isn’t of the Devil. The Osmonds (including Donny and Marie) are a wholesome goodie goodie 2‑shoe family living in Utah, but they’re Mormons (another cult) nevertheless. Where’s the spiritual discernment in true Christians these days? It seems to be as rare as hen’s teeth.
What this court challenge will do is give the Church of Scientology some much needed media exposure as if the Devil doesn’t have all the free advertising already. Tom Cruise is doing his part in promoting his cultic church in California and the Spierings are unwittingly lending a helping hand. Thousands of people might leave traditional churches to join the Church of Scientology. The giving up of sound doctrine for those of demons was foretold by the Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 4:1.

Michael Jackson to convert to Islam?
Source: MSNBC.com
February 1, 2007 -- Jermaine Jackson said on Monday he wants his brother Michael to convert to Islam; and he believes the reclusive superstar has given it serious thought.
“Michael, I feel, needs to become a Muslim because I think it’s a great protection for him from all the things that he’s been attacked with, which are false,” said the former Jackson Five singer who now lives in Bahrain.
“There’s a strength and protection there,” Jackson told BBC Asian Newtwork after finishing runner-up to Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty in the “Celebrity Big Brother” TV reality show that was marred by accusations of racist bullying.
Comments: From the frying pan into the fire. Such is the additional pain that will be felt if Michael Jackson turns his back on the Jehovah’s Witnesses to become a disciple of the prophet Mohammed and Allah. The Jehovah’s Witnesses organization is a cult and Islam is a pagan centered religion that doesn’t worship the same God as Christians. Michael Jackson, for all the hundreds of millions of dollars he has raked in by deluding his faithful adoring fans, will continue to lead his millions of admirers into immorality and spiritual darkness that encompasses slavery of the soul. Islam is not exactly a freedom fighter’s dream, but a stern religion with lots of don’ts and musts. Radical Islam’s aim is to convert the billions of humanoids, by force if need be, to its religion. People who used to live under suppressive Communist regimes will say that Communism (another product of the Devil) is mild when compared to Islam’s unyielding adherence to strict rituals and practices. Thefts are punishable by losing one’s hand and adulterers and adulteresses forfeit their lives through beheading. Daily prayers to Allah are obligatory. Mirth and humor are frowned upon regardless of the belly splitting yuk yuks you see on the new TV comedy (only in Canada) titled “Little Mosque on the Prairies”. Religious pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina are mandated.
The Jackson family may fuel a growing trend of people converting to Islam since the aftermath of 9/11. Instead of an increasing uproar due to the horrendous violence perpetrated by Muslims at the NYC World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in a Pennsylvania field, the opposite has been true. More and more people have become fascinated and attracted by the teachings of the Koran which leaves true Christians scratching their heads in wonderment.

Tennessee Presbyterian Church votes to leave the PCUSA
Source: christanpost.com
February 1, 2007 -- Members of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church unhappy with the Presbyterian Church (USA) allowing alternative names for the Trinity and other theological differences voted to leave the denomination and join the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
The 2,000-member church voted 1,172-10 Sunday for the split from the denomination, which has its General Assembly offices in Louisville, Ky. The church voted by a similar margin to join the Evangelical Presbyterian denomination
Church elders called for the vote because of a stricter view of the Bible than the Presbyterian Church (USA) on Jesus, the infallibility of Scripture and a peace, unity and purity clause.
"This varied interpretation frequently has placed us at odds with General Assembly actions, priorities and program directives," they said in a statement printed in the program Sunday.
Elder Diane Mizell said a key in choosing the Evangelical Presbyterian Church was that women can be ministers, session members and deacons.
Comments: 1 Corinthians 14:[34] Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. In today’s world, it’s all about relativism. Absolutes are railed upon as being intolerant, close‑mindedness and hatred. These Signal Mountain Presbyterian members deplore what the PCUSA have promoted, e.g. homosexuals as ministers. They’re joining a more “conservative” Presbyterian denomination which has women as ministers and deacons, also frowned upon by the Apostle Paul. One could argue that you can’t compare the abominable sin of homosexuality with women preachers and teachers. That may be true, but God’s Word plainly tells us that women ought to be silent in the churches (and other religious institutions that prescribe to God’s work). It may not be a matter of degrees of sins, but it’s disobedience to God’s Word nevertheless.
How men and women who adhere to egalitarianism will rationalize their actions before a Holy God. It’s kind of ironic that the Evangelical Presbyterian denomination being evangelical (interpreting the Bible literally) would take Paul’s teaching on forbidding women in public ministry and toss it aside. Just because you don’t like certain Pauline scriptures, you can’t just jettison it out of the window. Quit calling yourself evangelical and consider yourself a free thinker instead. We’re seeing more and more so called Christians simply deciding that God’s Word isn’t 100% infallible thus promoting the Serpent’s age old question “Yes, has God said?” (see Genesis 3:1).
