US strike group transits Suez Canal
Source: JPost

30 January 2006 – A US Navy strike group led by the assault ship USS Bataan steamed through the Suez Canal on Tuesday on its way to join the buildup of American forces in the Middle East.

The Bataan, which entered Egyptian waters Monday, spent the night at the Mediterranean harbor of Port Said and was expected to leave the Egyptian part of the Red Sea later Tuesday, a Suez Canal official said, speaking on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the press.

The seven-vessel Bataan group includes 2,200 US Marines and sailors, helicopters and Harrier fighter jets, the Navy said in Bahrain.

The US Fifth Fleet, which is based in Bahrain, will be overseeing around 50 warships in the Mideast after the arrival of the Bataan and an American aircraft carrier group in February, said US Navy Lt. Cmdr. Charlie Brown.

The United States has not had two carriers in the Mideast since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Comments:  50 warships is an awful lot of ships in the Gulf and Mediterranean. Like this article explains, there has not been a build up like this since the Iraq invasion in 2003. It almost seems like it a mirror image to that deployment except most of the U.S. ground troops are still in Iraq. In the Iraq invasion, the U.S. attacked Iraq on 19 March 2003. This deployment, it doesn’t appear that the U.S. has any intension of invading Iran but air strikes are looking more likely as this build-up continues. Iran continues to enrich Uranium despite sanctions and international pressure to stop their work. Iran is not going to back down and is set in their nuclear goal. With two carriers in the Middle East, this will bring tensions to a new level.

Russia to sell air defense missiles to Venezuela

Source: Pravda

30 January 2006 – Russia is in talks with Venezuela to supply it with sophisticated air defense missiles, a Russian news agency reported Tuesday. Between 10 and 12 Tor-M1 missiles could be supplied to Venezuela at the initial stage, the Interfax-Military News Agency said. It also quoted a defense industry official as saying that another 20 could be sold later.

A spokesman for Russia's state-controlled arms trading monopoly, Rosoboronexport, refused to comment on the report.

The Tor-M1 air defense missile system can identify up to 48 targets and fire at two targets simultaneously at a height of up to 6,000 meters (20,000 feet), the AP reports.

Despite U.S. efforts to block other countries from selling arms to Venezuela, Russia recently has signed some US$3 billion in military deals with President Hugo Chavez's government, making it the largest weapons supplier to Venezuela. Contracts include 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles, 24 Su-30 fighter jets and 53 Russian helicopters.

Russia has also just delivered 29 Tor-M1s to Iran, over Washington's complaints.

Comments: Russia supplying the Tor-M1 to Venezuela is a provocative move for sure. These missile systems are state of the art and will bring down planes with a high rate of success. Russia is also selling this advanced surface to air missile systems to Iran and they are deploying them around all their nuclear facilities that will be targeted. The best place to test this new hardware is on the battlefield and Russia is taking full advantage of future battlefields to get an idea how their merchandise will work. Even though Russia agreed and signed for sanctions against Iran, they continue to supply missile systems and centrifuges ignoring the UN resolution. Why do they even vote at the Security Council and blindly break the rules afterwards? Go figure.  Moscow pushes ahead in Bushehr after US sanctions threat to Russian Tor-M1 system suppliers

Negropante, Iran cannot go unchallenged

Source:  Reuters.com

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Iran's support for anti-U.S. extremists in Iraq should not go unchallenged, despite U.S. hopes of avoiding confrontation with Tehran, President George W. Bush's pick for deputy secretary of state said on Tuesday.

Comments Reading this, does anyone doubt that the Dem's realize what must be done? They just don't want their liberal lefties to think they "support Bush". The confirmation of Negropante, IMHO will show that the Dem's say one thing to their "constituents", but obviously their actions speak louder than their words. Where were they during the big rally in DC last weekend? Not ONE of them had the "guts" to stand up for what they "supposedly" believe. If I had the misfortune of being Penn, Sarandan, Robbins or heaven forbid Hanoi Jane...I would be in the media's face over the lack of "public" support for their cause by "their leadership"..."their Congress" whom they put in office and in the majority!!! The Democratic "leadership's" actions clearly show that they do realize the dangers we face...they just don't want the "fall out" on their heads...they are more than willing to give a wink and a nod to the undeniable military action we see is inevitable, but they are going to put the burden on the Republicans and Bush and continue their verbal protest so they can look "pretty". The confirmation hearing is a joke, the Dem's are saying one thing...but their vote of confirmation to the appointment of Negropante clearly speaks louder than words. They have '08 in their sights...it is a "win-win" in their eyes...they will support the efforts to stop Iran behind doors, and through their actions, but will be they will feign resistance in headlines...their "out takes" of today's hearing are undoubtedly being copied so they can be replayed later as a "I told you so" or better yet, "I voted against this, before I voted for it". I respect a person who stands for what they believe in and act accordingly, much more than a hypocrite...how about the American people?   The Dem's will confirm Negropante...and as I said, actions speak louder than words....

Israeli Cabinet approves Muslim minister

YAHOO NEWS!/Associated Press

January 30, 2007-- Israel was on the verge of installing the first Muslim Cabinet minister in its 58-year history Monday after the government overwhelmingly approved the appointment.

Parliament was scheduled to convene to give final approval to Raleb Majadele's appointment, which the government billed as a step toward equality for Muslim Arabs, Israel's largest minority.

The appointment was mired for weeks in political infighting and charges of racism. It drew criticism from hard-liners who said the move was little more than political expediency. Even Arab lawmakers dismissed the development, saying the government has little real interest in improving the lot of Israel's Arabs.

Majadele told Associated Press Television News that his goals as a Cabinet minister without portfolio would be "promoting coexistence between the two peoples inside the state, and promoting dialogue between the Palestinians and the Israelis toward negotiations and political agreement."

Majadele, a parliamentary backbencher from the centrist Labor Party, said his appointment is meant to give representation to Israel's Arabs, which make up about 20 percent of the country's 7 million citizens. He has predicted that in the future, every Israeli government will be obliged to include an Arab minister.

Comments:  You have to give credit to Israeli PM Ehud Olmert for including a “token Arab” in his Cabinet albeit a minister without portfolio, i.e. not responsible for major issues such as defence or finance.  That being said, Raleb Majadele will still be attending each and every Cabinet meeting even those that discuss Israel’s planned response to suicide bomber induced deaths and carnage against Israeli Jews and the South Lebanon simmering volcano (Hezbollah and Syria preparing to goad Israel into another conflict) that’s expected to turn into a crisis anytime soon.

The Israeli leadership is foolish to include Raleb Majadele in such sensitive discussions.  He might very well be a “wise guy” (a double agent) who’ll report what transpired in the meetings to his Palestinian masters.  Who’s going to be assigned to see that he doesn’t?  If he discovers that he’s not trusted and is being tracked and monitored, he’ll scream “harassment” and Israel will have to back off with the monitoring.  Of course, if Mr. Olmert was clever, he would toss a few juicy tidbits of false information at Raleb Majadele and hope that he’ll bring the ant poison back to the Palestinian queen’s chamber and kill the queen and all her worker ants.  Having an Arab in the Jewish Cabinet might not be so bad after all if Olmert plays his cards right.  He better brush up on his Texas Holdem skills in the meantime.

African Union chooses Ghana over Sudan

Source: YAHOO NEWS!/Associated Press

January 30, 2007-- The African Union chose Ghana to head the 53-member bloc Monday, turning aside Sudan's bid for the second year in a row because of the worsening bloodshed in Darfur.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had opened the summit with a call on African leaders to end the deadlock created by Sudan's refusal to allow U.N. peacekeepers into the violence-wracked region in western Sudan.

Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu also sharply criticized Sudan, and an aid group said it was pulling out of Darfur because it was unsafe.

Sudanese leaders were adamant that they deserved the rotating chairmanship, but international organizations opposed it, accusing the Sudanese government of taking part in the conflict in Darfur. Rebel leaders in the Sudanese region have said they would stop considering the current AU peacekeeping mission as an honest broker there if Sudan was selected.

"By consensus vote, President (John) Kufuor of Ghana has been elected to the presidency of the African Union," Alpha Oumar Konare, the AU's chief executive, told reporters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Sudan had pushed to obtain the post at last year's summit, which it hosted, but African leaders selected Republic of Congo's president in a compromise deal in which he would hold it for a year and then hand it over to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. But the deal hinged on Sudan demonstrating progress in bringing peace to Darfur. Instead of calming, Darfur's violence in recent months has spilled into neighboring Chad and Central African Republic.

Comments:  The African Union is just one of several unions around the world.  These regional unions (e.g. NAFTA in North America and the South East Asia one) are financial, political and societal conglomerates aimed at legislating and monitoring regional concerns.  They’re preparatory groundwork for the 10 planetary regions [or 10 kings] that the future Antichrist will rule (lord) over.  Some Bible prophecy authors used to subscribe to the 10 kings being 10 nations in the EU, but have altered their thinking about 10 regional governors having jurisdiction over their respective free trade zones.

The African Union is exercising its authority by excluding terror inducing Sudan.  Sudan needs to shape up or be shipped out.  The shunning of Sudan shows how serious the African nations view Sudan’s involvement in the Dafur humanitarian disaster.  If liberal Desmond Tutu got all riled because of Dafur, then you know it must be worse than it’s been reported.  Think back to Rwanda.  The African Union doesn’t have the military to intervene and the supercop U.S. is stretched thin in Iraq, Afghanistan and South Korea.  The Africans will have to fend for themselves, but at least they are of one voice.

Tony Campolo: Poverty is Jesus' Job One

Source: StarTribune.com

January 30, 2007 -- It's a sound bet that students at Christian colleges are as likely to be carrying "Letters to a Young Evangelical," the latest book by Tony Campolo, in their backpacks as they are textbooks. The Baptist minister, scholar, author and onetime spiritual adviser to President Bill Clinton is everywhere these days -- speaking on campuses, smiling from prominent shelves in bookstores, talking animatedly on "Nightline" and CNN.

Along with Jim Wallis, Randall Balmer and others, Campolo has become a leader in the increasingly influential national movement of left-leaning evangelicals. On Wednesday night, he'll speak at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi; the event is free and open to the public.

Q You've called on young Christians to carry out the teachings of Jesus in this world. What does that mean in practical terms?

A It means to serve the poor. I'd recommend that young people consider something like [the national Christian service program] Mission Year [run by Campolo's son, Bart]. No matter what you plan to be -- a lawyer, teacher, doctor -- you'll be better at it if you go live and work among our brothers and sisters who live in poverty. It's urgently important to taste life in other sectors of our society; otherwise you may develop a jaded or intolerant outlook.

Q You and your wife, Peggy, famously disagree on same-sex marriage. Describe your disagreement.

A We agree on some aspects of it. Both of us believe in monogamy and that the state should have nothing to do with marriage, homosexual or heterosexual. We believe the state should guarantee civil rights to all people and oversee civil unions, as is done in Europe. Then, if a couple wants to get married in a religious sense, they would go to a church. When President Bush says marriage is a sacred institution, my first response is, what the devil is the government doing messing around with something sacred?

My wife says same-sex marriage fits into her understanding of scripture. It doesn't fit into mine. She makes a biblical case for it; I make one against it. We don't go to the same church; she is in what's called "a welcoming and affirming" congregation.

Q Do you have connections to Minnesota?

A I speak there often. My son was youth director at Park Avenue United Methodist Church for two years. I make regular visits to Bethel University and even made an antiwar speech at Northwestern College. Also, Al Franken is a good friend of mine; I do his show three, four times a year. He's bright and funny, but in such a sweet way. Like, he says, "Don't you evangelicals send people like me to hell?" And I answer that I would never send anyone to hell; that's up to God.

Comments:  Tony Campolo’s liberal leanings are so far left of center that he, like the Tower of Pisa, might just tip over on his side.  How could a Baptist turn from right to left?  If pushed against the wall, Campolo might come back with “My wife and the Devil made me do it!”.  Yes, blame his wife who thinks the Bible supports same sex relations.  Maybe they do attend different churches, but what does that say about their “Christian” marriage?  It appears that his liberal wife has gone off the deep end with her passion for defending gays and lesbians come Hell or high water.  You know the Devil has her hooked line and sinker and she can’t reach the lifebuoy.  As for his son, he was active in a liberal mainline Protestant denomination.  Campolo counseled Bill Clinton and look how Clinton spent his nights at the Oval Office.  Campolo isn’t exactly the model of a Christian husband, father and pastor.

It’s disheartening to read and hear of once straight as an arrow conservative ministers gone over to the liberal humanistic side.  They’re sleeping with the Devil so to speak when they throw off their Biblically correct garments in favor of the doctrines of demons.  Yes, there are Democrats who are true Christians, but their conscience has been effectively suppressed for them to support the leftist agenda that aim to destroy the traditional family unit, promote immorality, direct people away from God and the Bible, and vow to establish an earthly paradise with God and Jesus not invited.  These traitors to the faith have the audacity to call the haters of God their good friend.  You can’t be a friend of the Devil’s crowd and be a friend of God also.
