Orthodox Epiphany fills streets of Ethiopia capital

19 January 2006 – A sea of faithful resplendently dressed in white have filled the streets of the Ethiopian capital to celebrate the annual Epiphany, or the baptism of Jesus Christ.
Jubilant crowds from Addis Ababa's 13 Orthodox Churches descended on city streets for the religious ritual, locally known as "Timkat", marked on the 11th day of the fifth month in accordance with the Orthodox calender.
Making prayer pit-stops, the procession walked behind replicas of tablets of the Biblical Ten Commandments, removed once a year during the festival from the Ark of the Covenant -- the vessel in which the Commandments are believed to have been held and which the Orthodox church here maintains is located in Ethiopia.

According to the church's lore, Ethiopia's first emperor Menelik I took the Ark of the Covenant from Jews in Jerusalem because they had lost faith and were no longer observing God's commandments handed down to Moses on Mount Sinai.
Menelik I, the founder of the Ethiopian empire, is traditionally believed to be the son of the Biblical King Solomon and Queen Sheba.He is said to have brought the Ark of the Covenant to Ethiopia after the destruction of Solomon's Temple and according to that legend, the Ark should be preciously conserved in the Axoum church north of the country.
Comments: Axoum, Ethiopia is believed to be another location and resting place for the lost Ark of the Covenant. The Ark disappeared between the reign of King Solomon of Israel (970-931 B.C.) and the Babylonians' destruction of the first Temple in 586 B.C. The Ethiopian version is that the True Ark was secretly taken there in Solomon's time and a replica Ark was placed in the Temple. Some would argue that Solomon gave the queen of Sheba “whatsoever she asked”, including the ark, when she departed for her own land. (2Ch 9:12) However, after the queen left for Ethiopia, the Ark is mentioned in 2 Ch 35:3 as being put in the Temple and would not be a burden again on the shoulders of those who carried it. Was this a replica or the real ark? After “this” Ark was placed in the Temple, it was never mentioned being “present” in scripture after that time.
Although I lean towards the idea that the Ark is hidden beneath the Temple Mount, it really won’t matter once it is revealed during the Third Temple period. Here is an article on the Ethiopian version. Found: The Ark of the Covenant?

Israeli President faces rape charge

23 January 2006 – Israeli prosecutors have announced their intention to charge the country's President with rape against at least one female former employee, in what is set to be the most severe scandal ever to engulf an Israeli head of state.
Menachem Mazuz, the country's attorney general, this afternoon issued a statement saying that that prosecutors had collected enough evidence to support an indictment against Moshe Katsav on charges of rape, harassment, sexual relations involving the abuse of power, obstruction of justice and illegally accepting gifts.
Mr Katsav, whose position is largely ceremonial, was investigated after accusations by four women who worked for him during his tenure as President and, before that, when he was a Cabinet minister.

Ehud Olmert, the Prime Minister and leader of the centrist Kadima party, has recorded record low approval ratings for a Prime Minister as part of the fall-out from Israel's disastrous war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon last summer, which has already led to the resignation of his military chief. The Prime Minister's plight worsened again two days ago, when a criminal investigation was launched into his involvement in the sale of a government-controlled bank in 2005.
Comments: Mr Katsav should do the right thing and resign his post as President. Instead of trying to hold onto his position and drag his title through the courts, he should pull the plug and hand the reigns to someone else. If Kastav refuses to resign, it will leave a black stain on the title of President, even though it is only a ceremonial position. This is a perfect example of the corrupt leadership that governs Israel at this time and the Israeli public has had enough. This should be another wake up call to clean up the Knesset and get rid of all these corrupt officials. This Includes Olmert, who is also involved in a criminal investigation.

Gay Bishop Says Divisiveness in Episcopal Church is Exaggerated

January 23, 2007 - The openly gay bishop, whose election spurred a schism in the Episcopal Church that has played out in Connecticut and elsewhere, said the scope of the rift has been exaggerated in the media.
The
current division over homosexuality in the church is not much
different from an earlier split over ordaining women priests, he
said.
"I think it breaks God's heart that we would be focusing on such an
internal issue, instead of focusing upon the world which, as I
understand it, Jesus called us to," Robinson said.
Comments: When does it become apparently obvious that the falling away from God, that was spoken of in prophecy, is happening before our eyes? Where in the Bible does it say it’s ok with God if someone practices homosexuality? It doesn’t folks. They say it is a division in the church regarding homosexuality, yet I say to them: What division? How can you take a side to support homosexuality in our churches? The Bible is clear on homosexuality as an “abomination”.
There is only one side to be on and that is God’s side. You cannot teach Christian beliefs if you don’t follow them yourself, Jesus warned us of that. I promise you, when the Lord returns for us and many are left behind, the truth will be made plainly obvious.

Burma Orders Christians to be Obliterated

January 23, 2007 - A leaked secret document claims to reveal plans
by the Burmese military regime to wipe out Christianity in the
southeast Asian country. The document, titled “Programme to Destroy
the Christian Religion in Burma,” was shown to the U.K.-based
Telegraph newspaper on Sunday by human rights groups.
Inside the memo were detailed instructions on how to force
Christians out of the country, according to Telegraph. Instructions
included imprisoning any person caught evangelizing, capitalizing on
the fact that Christianity is a non-violent religion.
“The Christian religion is very gentle,” read the letter, according
to Telegraph, “Identify and utilize its weakness.”
Comments: Where does it end? Well, it won’t, at least not for now anyway. Christians have been persecuted since Christ walked the earth over 2000 years ago and it’s not letting up anytime soon. The Lord told us that we would all be hated for His name’s sake and that there would come a time when our persecution would reach heights of unseen proportions, that time is the Tribulation and that time is drawing closer with every breath we take.
Even if we are raptured before the Tribulation, there will be Christians that will spring up all over the place during the Tribulation due to God’s everlasting love and grace. Those Christians are going to face death for their belief in Christ and that death will be met with the Crown of Life from our Lord. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in that region. May the Lord guide them and protect them during their persecutions.

Iran: Israel, US will soon die

January 23, 2007 - Israel and the United States will soon be destroyed, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday during a meeting with Syria's foreign minister, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) website said in a report.
"Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad… assured that the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel will soon come to the end of their lives," the Iranian president was quoted as saying.
Comments: Well I can’t speak for the U.S., but as far as Israel is concerned: Think again Ahmadinejad! The Bible tells us of the coming Gog/Magog war and that war will be lost by the ones who decide to foolishly attack Israel, that includes Iran. I feel sorry for those who seek her destruction, because destruction is what you will find. Your destruction.

The happiest man in the world?

January 23, 2007 -- To scientists, he is the world's happiest man. His level of mind control is astonishing and the upbeat impulses in his brain are off the scale.
Now Matthieu Ricard, 60, a French academic-turned-Buddhist monk, is to share his secrets to make the world a happier place. The trick, he reckons, is to put some effort into it. In essence, happiness is a "skill" to be learned.
His advice could not be more timely as tomorrow Britain will reach what, according to a scientific formula, is the most miserable day of the year. Tattered new year resolutions, the faded buzz of Christmas, debt, a lack of motivation and the winter weather conspire to create a peak of misery and gloom.
Comments: How come a man who’s a Buddhist monk on the way to Hell and an eternity in the Lake of Fire, without God and Jesus, and without hope in this world be the happiest man in the world? Do you see the absurdity in this? The Christian can truly said, “My future is glorious!”, whereas the unsaved can only lament with, “My future is gloomy.”
Buddhists worship and follow a dead man whose ashes are still lying dormant under the earth while Christians follow a resurrected glorified Savior Jesus who’s seated at God’s right hand. Matthieu Ricard, with his higher education acquired at Satan’s University of Destruction, places his faith in a human idol set up by the Devil. For all his intelligence, Monsieur Ricard was duped by Satan. His mind is blind to the beauty of Jesus and His love for sinners. Much of this world’s people are equally shackled by their sins and in servitude to the Devil. The Devil’s offerings of education, entertainment and distractions/diversions appeal to man’s pride and wish to be happy in this lifetime. Many believe that there’s only one life to live and that’s with gusto. Many don’t subscribe to the hereafter. It’s “eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow, we’ll all die like a dog”. Like Peggy Lee used to sing, “Is That All There Is?” So tragic.

European churches revive drive for EU "God clause"

January 23, 2007 -- Germany's efforts to revive the stalled European constitution have encouraged church leaders to resurrect their failed campaign to have the EU document include a reference to the continent's Christian heritage.
Catholic and Protestant prelates, especially in Germany, have stepped up calls to Chancellor Angela Merkel -- a pastor's daughter who personally favours the "God clause" -- to stand up for it during Berlin's current six-month EU presidency.
Merkel nodded in their direction at the weekend, telling Focus magazine: "Europe must continue to consider this issue."
Comments: Psalm 53:[1] The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. The ever increasing godless EU is going the route of removing God from the lives of ordinary Europeans. There’s no more place for God in a society that rejects the authority of the Bible. The Roman Catholic Church (RCC) sees its influencing waning if God is completely blotted out. As such, the RCC and her Protestant daughters are making perhaps its final attempt to lobby the tall foreheads in Brussels to reconsider God being in the new EU constitution. Perhaps God is no longer relevant, but surely, religion can be kept intact. Man being spiritual needs religion. The RCC loves religion for religion mainly keeps its over 1 billion adherents tied to the apron of the RCC. This family tie maintains the flow of gold, gems and precious money flowing unimpeded into the coffers of the RCC.
Ecumenism will somehow be short-circuited if God is removed. Politicians will think long and hard about the pleas of church leaders. If they don’t want to be alienated by the Vatican, then God stays in people’s lives. Jesus and His way, the truth and the life can be erased though. You can’t have that kind of exclusivity message being propagated. Protestantism used to protest against this, but if given a choice between that and the furtherance of ecumenism and reaching out to other faiths and religions that believe in a universal god albeit not the Christian God, then that’s the price Protestantism will pay. Compromise exacts a steep price; the jettisoning of one’s long held unwavering principles.

Speaker Pelosi's daughter documents Christian right

January 23, 2007 -- Alexandra Pelosi, a documentary filmmaker and daughter of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, had a big problem on her hands when making her new movie, "Friends of God," and it came from the Christian right.
When Pelosi, whose movie was backed by U.S. cable television network HBO, set out to explore the Christian evangelical movement widely credited with helping elect President George W. Bush, she had a difficult time getting anybody to open up to her.
But eventually Pastor Ted Haggard opened his door to Pelosi and welcomed her. It was a perfect entry point because at that time Haggard headed the 30-million member National Association of Evangelicals from his church in Colorado.
Then, in November, only days after the documentary filmmaker handed her work over to HBO to prepare for TV, Haggard made headlines when claims of his drug use and having sex with a male prostitute led to his disgrace and his downfall.
Haggard's dilemma presented Pelosi with her second big problem. Because she uses Haggard extensively and because she felt obliged to her audience to acknowledge the charges against Haggard, "Friends of God" could be viewed as an attack on the Christian right. It is the last thing Pelosi wanted.
"I think the evangelicals will pre-judge the project. I hope they won't, but I assume they will," she said.
Comments: The Pelosi women are Democrats who reject the authority of God, God’s Bible and principles as set out in God’s Word. They’re liberals and abortion and homosexual supporters. Fundamentally sound evangelical Christians deem it wise to avoid God rejecters yet Ted Haggard, the now disgraced former leader of the National Association of Evangelicals and his church in Denver somehow managed to roll out the Welcome Mat for Ms. Pelosi. What could Mr. Haggard possibly gain by rubbing intellectual heads with an avowed libertarian? God’s Word says we’re not to entertain such Christ thrashers.
Now that Mr. Haggard has been lifted up as the poster boy for Christian hypocrisy through his homosexuality and desired drug use, Mr. Haggard’s sins are having continual consequences beyond the day he finally confessed to the church elders. (NOTE: King David of the Old Testament committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband exposed to the front line of battle leading to him being killed and David’s sins were far reaching.) At the time Mr. Haggard was gladly answering all of Ms. Pelosi’s questions re: his Christian faith, he was still sheltering his secret sins. You know and I know that would be considered mitigating factors, but Ms. Pelosi will make fodder of his spiritual failures nonetheless and so will all the Christ rejecting TV viewers. Psalm 51:[10] Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
